Diving

Thu, 2013-10-10 20:07

Diving will be your best bet.. Putting the pots in will be a waste of time unless your fishing for reds in deeper water.. Alot of hard work for little rewards....wait for the whites is my advice..

My personal and pro pots will not be back in the water till atleast the 15th on November.

But hey if you go out and try good luck to all i hope you get a feed..

At this time of the year would there be any hanging around inshore reefs?

most of the pro crayfisherman have cleaned out the crays imo

Fri, 2013-10-11 13:04

went with 1 of my mates a few times last season,so little reward for crays in pots, not worth it especially when the proffessional cray fishers can go all year round, thats why there are less crays in the last year or so,no protected breeding season recently  imo...................

pretty farfetch comments you have typed regarding the breeding and the pros, i think you gotta spend a bit more time researching before typing.

No protected breeding

Fri, 2013-10-11 14:21

No protected breeding season???

You cannot take tar spot or setose crays or crays with eggs, I would say they have a totally protected breading season.

As for the pro's taking all of the crays because they fish all year, find it hard to understand when the pro's can only catch a very strict quota of crays. In years gone by the quota was just caught in a smaller time frame (season). Now they can choose to smash their quota early in the season during or just after the whites and pull the boat out for the rest of the year, or fish smart and just catch their crays when the value is high. Like the guys right now are doing. No difference to the amount of crays coming out of the water.

Whatever the total catch allocation for the year is, the pros get 95% and the recs get 5%.

We looped 20 legal crays in

Wed, 2013-10-16 12:25

We looped 20 legal crays in shallow frfeediving yesterday so your theory is incorrect

I looped one that was berried (that was released) other than that, all legal!

Year round

Fri, 2013-10-11 16:55

This is the first year we have been able to fish year round so there is no way we affected this recreational season..

As for crays other then the whites which was affected by the swell no over fishing we have had an insane year, more crays around then I have ever seen..

As for quotas we catch less now also as oh quotas have been dropped while rec ones have been raised..

Craying is just like normal fishing if your good at it you will always catch don't blame other things on you lack of ability.

As I and Tangles have already said you are wasting your time putting pots in now the fisherys have given us something completely useless in my opinion..
