Excellent result. I've been getting steady results in about 15m out from Garden Island but went from Hero to Zero today. Decided to move a little further out.

Crays
Very nice, I tried to buy half a dozen crays at a few places today and they were all over $200 for the 6. In fact well over that. No crays came home with me for that.

Good work
Had the first day of not bagging out. Mind you we pulled yesterday.
Got some nice size reds that were very berried up so hopefully the future is looking just as good as it is looking now.

Do i need to look for lumps 30m off Midarie?
Hi all, long time follower, first time poster. I'm a fisher (from boat), and a now-and-then diver. This is the first year for me with pots, so I know sweet FA in this department. I have my pots out from Mindarie in 28 - 32m water. I scattered 4 pots in this depth but did not look for ground. Am I wasting my time? should I look for some lumps? I put em out last Thursday and pulled last Sat and Sun - got nothing. I am pulling on Friday morning but want to get some advice before then so I can either look for some lumps or put em elsewhere. Any advice appreciated, Cheers.

Off Mindarie
G'day DLCL.. Welcome aboard.
First up the whites run in closer is over now so unless there is a stack of Pro pots anywhere near yours i think you are wasting your time where you described. The whites will be out a lot deeper now. Oh and they will be pretty red now.
I would suggest you bring your pots in closer to the reef and look for lumps/reef that is just off some sand patches. Drop the pots as close to the lump as possible, snug it right up if you can without getting it jammed. There are still a stack of crays around but they are not walking far so you have to entice them in. The other advantage is the water is not so deep so pulling is faster and easier. We pulled 4 pots yesterday and the ones close to the reefs got crays (not many) and the ones a couple meters away got none.
You can also pot right on the reef in the little honey holes but it is a riskier move as stuck pots is common doing that.. If you dont mind a dive every now and then it should be no problem for you.
Good luck.

good stuff
I have enjoyed watching some of the diving and snaring links on this site.Used to dive of binningup out of Bunbury years ago.Not sure I am up for diving again but might snorkel in closer.I went to buy crays at sealanes in fremantle but at about $60 each I might try the maine lobster they have in at $24 each. They have big claws as well.swan river crabs are the best.Duncan
just do it.

Crays at lancelin
Thanks Madmerv, i will bring em in closer tomorrow if i come up empty handed. I generally fish from Lancelin as i live NOR so was thinking about taking them up there and checking them every couple of days. Can you or anyone else out there offer any advice about Lano, or is it simply look for the reef, lumps and/or pro pots?
Cheers.

Try Two Rocks
Rather than the drive to Lancelin, if you are not happy with Mindarie, try off two rocks.
There is less pots up there but still a lot close to the marina. Head up to Linda reef and look for the lumps on the west side. I used to dive that area a lot and there were always resident crays there.

So have the professional crayfishing guys still got pots out behind FFB? Do they just move them along way out or do they go North? Surely they fish for crays for the next few months at least.

As the pro's are now on a quota system and not a season system they fish when it is profitable. When the price goes up they fish and if they can make a good profit by fishing deep because nobody else is doing it at that time then they will.
If the guys up at Gero are putting a lot on the market the price will go down and the boys out of Perth will have a break.
