Craytheiving?

So I dont know which way to go with this so make of it what you will. I really hope the skipper in question reads it! I'm an aussie battler too mate.

Pt Kennedy this arvo, taken my boat for a quick run after more sh1t luck! Thats another post! Anyway boat pulls in, I look into deck area thats got a few (5-6) kids and adults.

Ask how they went and they got 3 small reds, I had a bit of a chat and one little one pipes up and says " oh there is more under there!", as he is pointing to the sealed/secret compartment on the deck. THe adults looked at me sheepishly as I said " you need to otrain him a bit better if you going to do that", which they laughed and giggled.

Now I don't know if there ever was anything "hiding" under the floor but whats got up my farken nose is the fact that skipper is running a 21+ foot ali with a a very nice looking V6 four stroke yamaha. That rig must be worth a few pennies! And you are taking the little 1's out and teaching your arsehole ways of raping and pillaging.

I know the boat rego and number and I will NOT dog on you this time but for fark sakes mate, smarten up! I am really pissed off with your actions and hope you are reading this!

You know whats worst, these people are probablyy the first to pipe up when they here of "foriegners" taking undersize or illegal catches home.

Rant over

As I said, I did not see any foul play but am certain it was there!

name n shame them what's there numbers. I've had a fikn gut full of these unts. Everyday someone has there pots pulled sometimes the scabs steal the bait to its fukd. Start using razor blades wedged in the splice of the rope. Haha pull pull the pots nekminit no fingers that'll make me laugh. It's not being a dog to point the finger you're helping put a stop to this shit. Lucky your in Perth n not in a different country being caught poaching would end up in the pot for bait

jumping to conclusions

I wasn't there, but maybe the skipper was teaching his kids not to brag about their catches? Some people see talking about a good catch as friendly conversation, some think its bragging, some like to share the stoke, some want to give you water depths or even coordinates and some want to keep it quiet so they don't have to share.

Unless you saw under the hatch and they had 100 undersize, setose crays I can see why you haven't named and shamed or called Fishwatch. They had three that you know of so they could have legally had 21 more in the hatch without doing anything wrong except for being cagey.

Fish closures and dead snapper sure make people quick to call for a lynching ;)

The sheepish look kind of says it all

Although we can't be 100% sure blah blah blah, it look's pretty dodge. I would've report to fisheries as suspicious and let them work it out.

FishWatch

Wed, 2015-12-02 08:10

Just make a report to FishWatch and they will alert fisheries who will hopefully put them on the watch list. Hey, if they have done nothing wrong when fisheries have a look its all good. If they are being cheats then its on them isn't it.

LOL

Since when has it become trendy on this site to come up with crayfishing conspiracy theories. So the bloke has a few crays in a secret compartment that is in all likelihood a kill tank. If people ever ask me what I got my standard reply is 'yeah we got a few'. Everyones gotta chill out......and good on you for being an aussie battler.

If your 100% sure dob em in

Wed, 2015-12-02 09:27

If your 100% sure dob em in to fish watch, they do follow up but don't waste their time if you have no proof they have enough to deal with. Sister in laws father was investigated because some knob spanker saw him help a friend fillet fish after he had filleted his own fish at Gnarloo, knob spanker wasted fisheries time when they could have pinched someone who was breaking the rules.

I must say I have been blown away by the behaviour and attitudes of some people in my 3 week trip to metro waters

Take me back to the pilbara,  people are more relaxed up that way

Yep! 100%

foul play. Its no too hard to read the guilty skippers and co's faces. I have been around a bit. I really am hoping the skip reads this more than trying to start a cray war.

Crays, dhus, pinks, herring or guardies I dont discriminate. I aint no greenie but am a firm believer in "Fish for the Future".

I had a sneaky suspicion a few years ago reguarding u/size bream, called fisheries and the people were busted and I got a thanks. But before I called the fisheries I asked the fisher people if they were size and they said " what, what fish". So to that i reply Fuk Off ! and THEN dobbed  them in.

The cost of the future of fishing

Wed, 2015-12-02 11:34

The cost of fishing for the next generation is vigilance by all stake holders of our time.

For sure it can be an inconvenience for those charged with enforcement of fishing regulations, but hey isn't that what the fish watch reporting line is about. reporting suspicious activities.

They are not asking you to have put together a case that will stand up in court, that's their job. Just recently a member of the public reported suspicious behaviour of a person and involved actions with other persons cray pots, result fisheries mounted an operation and the operation ended with the apprehension of a person taking large numbers of crays from all and sundry cray pots in an area.

Bloody good job by them IMO.it was reporting by the public that got the ball going.

Old saying goes something like this, if you have got nothing to hide you have got nothing to fear.

it might'nt be illegal at all

Thu, 2015-12-03 08:21

A lot of people just don't want to let out what they are catching, even if the catch is fully legal in all respects. Just don't want company, might have an area all to themselves and would like to keep it that way for at least a few more pulls?  or not have people come and rob their gear? So you just put a small sample out for others to see.

Or it may be that they really raping and pillaging, so a visit from Fisheries would be a good outcome either way.,

Time

Thu, 2015-12-03 11:39

What time did you get there Torbs.

I would say fisheries are on to it. But they don't pull them up straight away

they sit back and watch the charges clock up, until it's worth their while in court

i made a call to them last week about an incident in that area

that, I can't understand that "IF" the pots are being pulled by some theif they cant afford their own pots. But they can affford a boat and fuel, probably sounder, epirb, etc.
