A cycle and fishing trip around Australia
Hi Everyone,
I've just joined fishwrecked and what a pleasure it is to be here! I'm originally South African but have spent most of my life living in UK. I've spent the last week reading through the site and it looks like you guys are spoilt for choice when it come to fishing!
My Plan now is to come to Australia to cycle around the country, fishing and working as I go. I would love to meet fellow fishing nuts along the way so if any of you guys have some spare time please please get in touch. Any advice would be also really appreciated as i see I have lots to learn.
My rough plan is to fly into Perth and start cycling north towards Exmouth looking for work as I go. After some months on the west coast I will push up north towards Darwin and maybe eventually make it down on the east coast and round to the south. I would like to try and cycle a loop around Australia depending on whether i have enough time available.
For the last few years i have been travelling and fishing around the world. I've spent lots of time in India fishing for Barramundi and Mahseer, as well as cycling from Uk to India, passing through Central Asia and Tibet. A couple of years ago a friend and i kayaked from Mumbai to Goa (650km) fishing along the way..took us 45 days and was a real blast and learning experience.
I love landbased fishing and hope I can endulge as much as possible around your coasts. Hopefully i will be able to land my first ever Australian Barramundi!
After I leave Australia I have a big trip planned which is to cycle Norway to Capetown with the aim to catch a fish in every country along the way. Its a big ask but i have been thinking it over for a while now, so if i can get the money together I reckon I will go for it.
Well its great to be here and I really hope to meet some of you guys in the coming months. Until then if anyone is interested in a read of my blog is at www.worldbiker.blogspot.com . Also if anyone ever finds themselves in India and needs advice about fishing just give me a shout!
A few photos of previous fishing, I hope you enjoy, All the best, Scott

Good on you mate. Livi'n the dream. Yes I would say Western Australia is achievable for that especially when you get into areas like Carnarvon for fruit picking and such. Not an expert at all mate so can't say much else but wow you must be fit :) excellent photos too, big gt for a kayak!

Most of the hardest people i ever met
have been folks cycling across the desert in central australia.I worked out there for some time and had alot of them come past that didnt work out how far and hot it is until they got half way.The coast is longer but the towns are closer together and it is far cooler.I am sure you will enjoy the trip around oz.You will find no shortage of people to help out on the fishing side.
So tell me have you got your info from years on the water or hours on the internet?

Hi Mate
Hi Chris,
Hows things buddy? Thanks for the reply to my post! much appreciated and yes i will be in touch if i reach Brisbane. My plans are pretty open at the moment and the more i read about the west coast the slower i think i will travel! The fishing looks great over there and I can't wait to chuck some lures and get stuck into some decent fish.
Thanks too for the offer of hooking me up in Germany! That would be excellent and really helpful as for the trip to go as planned I intend to hopefully make a lot of arrangements beforehand. Before on my "test" trip to India fishing along the way proved very difficult as I didn't have pre planned stop offs. If,(and thats a big If) I pull the Africa trip off I intend to produce a book about the experience so i will definately sort you a copy.
All the best buddy, hopefully will meet sometime soon, Scott

the possible dream
hey worldfisher, you've set yourself a mission and good luck with it, sounds fantastic. Drove back from Broome last week and passed a number of cyclists doing it hard, plus a guy walking two fancy camels midway between Carnarvon and Exmouth. It's a long way between watering holes out that way but looking at that picture of Tibet, I reckon you'll have it sussed. Cheers.

sounds like you have it sussed . when you come to oz , try and land in perth during the winter so as you head north you wont cop the cyclone season. would be good to see reports of your trip when you arrive. just remember. Winter, you do the top end and Summer you do the bottom.
PS , welcome to the site and it looks like you have had some fun so far

Hi Guys..
I should be flying in at the end of the month! can't wait to get on the trail of some fish!
Till: yeah ortlieb panniers are the way to go..some guys think not but I have come across nothing better...they got me through a month of camping and cycling while it rained everyday in west europe! what more could you ask for!
Faulkner family! thanks for the advice..much appreciated..hope to see you when i arrive..
Would any of you guys that live in perth know if a decent multipiece travel rod is available that i can cast lures with? Ideally something beefy enough to stop a mid sized trevally?
Also are the marks in perth producing any fish at the moment? I would love to have a go before i leave the city...
All the best, Scott
