Daily bag limits question
Submitted by Doooma on Wed, 2013-05-08 10:54
From my understanding... the daily bag limits now apply from midnight to midnight...
This in essence means we cant go out fishing Saturday and catch a bag limit, and then do the same on the following day.. (Sunday)
This also means you cant do an overnighter and come home with 2 days bag limit!!!
Does anyone actually truely knows if this is actually the case??

Overnighters
Pretty sure if you do an overnighter to the islands you can bring home 2 days catch because the first day finishes at midnight then you can start again on the new days catch.

You said it
Midnight to midnight. Why wouldnt we be allowed to catch our limit two days in a row then?

You can bring in 2 days bag
You can bring in 2 days bag limit but not of dhuies as their is a boat limit.
I would say you would have to provide proof that you were doing an extended stay at sea also like a parking receipt.

Asked fisheries officers at
Asked fisheries officers at Denham this question just last month. If out for 2 full days, then you can bring in 2 days bag limit, but must be out for 2 FULL days, not go out afternnon and return following morning. They will look to see if you have sleeping bags, cooking gear etc., they won't always just take your word for it. Also said they can tell when you left the ramp from the track on your GPS, although I don't understand how they get a date / time from this.

simple solution... check in
Thought i had a simple solution until i got chatted by the grey shirts...check in with sea rescue... and yes, I guess you could fudge that and call from your driveway, as I was told. But if they really want to be picky (and they were...) take a random digi photo while ur moored up at night with the islands in the background, as that will also have a time and date stamp in it, then they can't argue...

Yeah I agree... we can do all
Yeah I agree... we can do all those things.... but it doesnt 100% clear up what the rules are... I suppose it clears up small things we can do to make it hard for the shirts to ping us, but in doing that... are we not admitting that something isnt quite right or clearly understood??
Only asking as I dont want to be caught doing the wrong thing, assuming I was ok.. as ignorance is not a good enough reason to escape the rules and prosecution!!!

Still only two dhuies .1-2-3-4-5 nights dosnt make a differance dhuies are boat limit.not bag limit .And i wouldnt want to chance bringing in two or three days bag limits.unless you have it writen in blood.or you will be in court .regardless to what the guy told you last week.

Doesn't the kilo limit kick
Doesn't the kilo limit kick in on an overnighter?
As in you can still have 2 fish whole if you want, or alternatively10kg of fillets each? (which would likely equate to more than 2 dhuies per boat)
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

dunno about the coast but at
dunno about the coast but at the Islands its one days bag limit OR 10kg of fillets but the number of fillets must still be within your bag limits.
Plus all the 30cm guff etc
I did ask Fisheries
"what if I have a few fillets onboard, catch my 2 fish on another day and you come along before Ive filletted them"
answer "oh we'd like to think we'd be sensible about it and give you a chance to fillet them"
mmm-depends on the mood methinks....
