Daiwa Saltist LD reels

Hello all,

I am in the market to move from my trusty Shimano TLD 25 + 24Kg broomstick to another combo.

I have researched the Saltist LD models and these seem quite impressive.  My fishing is normally in the 30m - 40m depths and usually with baits.  I do make an annual trip up to Exmouth where I fish mainly in 100m.  My line is 50lbs braid.

Are there any anglers out there who can give me the pros/cons of this reel?

I would be looking at single speed either in 30 or 40 size.

Thank you all in advance.

Chris

I have the ld 30 and my skipper has the ld 40 mine is around 3 years old and I love it! It's my favourite reel and has awesome stopping power as I have found many times on big sambos! It's nice and light and a pleasure to fish with no bad comments just don't adjust the preset drag unless in free spool or it damages the internals awesome bit of gear!

ld 40h  is the perfect size

ld 40h  is the perfect size IMO, pros and cons - its not 2 speed -and i dont miss it

pros - too many to type

doesnt jiggle on the rod when jigging, and big enough to stop most things

i put mine on a daiwa monstermesh( $200 at bcf)

i ve pumped up 5-6 m tigersharks on it without too much effort

look at this combo -its light , small, PERFECT for a day s long jigging, baiting

5-6m tiger sharks? That's world record territory given the biggest ever recorded I can find is 5.5m. Think your estimates are out a bit mate & if they were even close to that size then it was bloody hard work bringing them up, no matter what gear you were using.

 I have an LD20 on a pe 2-3

I have a Saltiga LD20 2 speed on a pe 2-3 jig rod and absolutely love it!

The 2 speed is worth the money, the extra grunt when you hook something big just makes it sooooooo much easier!

Fin-Nor Marquesa

I have had both, the Fin-Nor in my opinion is far better, about the same price.

I have the daiwa saltist ld 35 narrow spool reel is awesome, got it matched to a jigging master terminator 2 series rod , pe1.5 to 3 an that has knocked over some brute fish. Narrow spool goes with it pefectly nice an sleek. Overall bloody impressed with it.

dude i have a daiwa saltist LD40 2 speed, best reel on the market for the price.

i have matched it up to a shimano t curve deep jig 100 and it is very well balanced.

i would recomend the 2 speed as hauling up large fish from the depths is quite hard on single speed.

Stiffness of reel

Fri, 2013-07-12 17:04

Is it my imagination or is the handle stiffer than normal.  Would probably think its due to the high gear ratio.  Does the harder winding affect hauling up a fish.  Very use to my TLD which is about 3.6:1.

Also just got a Saltist LD30 and absolutely love it, I put it on a shimano T-curve and was pulling up nice job fish from 100m's at exmouth last time we were out and was very easy going.
