Dampier Shark Report

Been fishing for some sharks off dampier yacht club after work to keep occupied. (releasing all of them)

fishing the high tide at night can sometime produce a shark every 20min. The sharks are mainly black tips 0.5m to 1.5m long. Although some big bronzies and tigers do come through as well. Im now chasing something big that cut through 100kg steel trace, so will upload more photos if I have any luck.

The other week I got a decent bronzie after a 45min fight on 15kg mono, successfully released it after a quick snap.

Good way to keep occupied when on down time. The shark in the pic is actually a Lemon Shark though. Bloody good sized one by the looks of it, bet it gave you a bit of a workout!

Good luck chasing a mahoosive one, Tiger perhaps? Now that will be a mother of battles shorebased!

Hey Northwest, from what i

Hey Northwest, from what i have read, they can apparently get to 3.4m. I have seen heaps and heaps of them in the lagoon off Tantabiddi at Exmouth.

Very nice docile shark to snorkel with. Have also hooked a few too that decided to eat a spangled emperor mid fight. One of the caravan park oldies once caught a small one beach fishing and cooked some up on the bbq at the park and shared it out. Didnt actually taste too bad. We released all the ones that taxed our fish though.

Funny you mention lemon

Funny you mention lemon sharks being docile to snorkel with. I've seen a documentary which rates the lemon shark the most dangerous, based on aggression. And it was competing with great whites, tigers and bull sharks...Go figure :)

Agree

I agree with you there, nothing docile about the lemon shark unless someone got a tawny nurse mistaken for one with its two dorsal fins of equal size,

Nah the ones we snorkel with

Nah the ones we snorkel with in Exmouth are Lemons. Have the mouth full of pointy teeth. I guess maybe we have just caught them on good days. Mind you we we swim with them they are just sitting on the bottom like they are resting. Maybe they are aggressive if provoked or if in feeding mode??? But i have pics of patting the ones off Tantabiddi. 13 years of doing it and they have never show aggression.

I think its just the whole media hype crap about them being aggressive. I mean google it and it says there have only been 22 attacks since 1580 with no deaths. Pretty nice sharkie in my books. But its just like people that will tell you Tigers and Great Whites are docile. I think the truth is more that all sharks can be docile. And some can be not so at times. I mean hey there are 18 recorded attacks by Wobbies!
