De Carbonising Two Stroke Evinrude 1997 Motor

Hi All
I have not been able to find anything on an Australian Site in reference to decarbonising a Two Stroke Motor. So question is.
1. Do any of you do it?
2. If so how?
The general idea seems to be to remove the spark plugs and spray something in, or do you put an additive into the fuel.
Cheers
Martin

What size
With a two stroke its just a case of removing the head/s and cleaning the carbon off, replace the head gasket/s and bolt it down.
Why do you want to remove the carbon as it doesn't affect how it runs.

The mechanic that used to
The mechanic that used to service my old otimax 225 used Yamaha labled product and sprayed it into the air intake while the motor was running to de-carbonize the cylinders and pistons. It was supposed to make the engine run smoother and more efficient, but I never noticed any difference.
From the amount of smoke and black stuff that came out of the exhaust it must of done something in there.

I think the intake stuff is
I think the intake stuff is called Evinrude Fogger. There is another one you mix with your fuel which I have been using in my Etec for a few years now called LiqidMoly is German made and you can get it from SCA.

Try either power tune which
Try either power tune which is quicksilver brand, carbon free which is a seirra brand or engine tuner, just run the motor at about 1000rpms and spray it through the carburettors (try not to let the motor stall) and allow it to sit for about 6 hrs or as instructions on can

Just thrash it
Good job for two strokes is just hold it flat out carbon only builds up if your idling the motor for loo long and oil to fuel mixture is to rich drive it harder

+1 for thrash it.
Give the motor and extended WIde Open Throtle run, perhaps exceeding 30 min if you can. Heat and air/fuel flow will remove deposits. Otherwise use market decarboning products.

De-Carb
I use OMC Engine Tuner and follow the instructions on the can, which are pretty close to what drew74 has said. Remove the air intake baffle and spray it into the throttle bodies on the carburettors on a warm engine. Use the whole can. I recommend that you do it in the water with the boat on the trailer at the ramp. Make sure the ramp is empty first as it will smoke like crazy while you do it. If you take it home while waiting for it to soak, make sure that you put a tray down under the engine lower unit and prop to catch all the carbon that will run out. It will make a mess of your driveway if you don't.

Oil
Just a silly question but won't that spill heaps of oil on the ramp and into the water? Not a mechanic so only asking...

Oil
It's not oil, it's more of a carbon sludge and most of it drips out while you soak the engine for a few hours with the leg down and when you run the engine in the water following the soak period. As you need to run the engine at a high idle while spraying in the Engine Tuner it is not recoommended to de-carb on muffs or on a flushing port (if you have one). If you have a paved, concrete or liquid limestone driveway the black carbon is difficult to remove.
