Deck wash

from my expierience you get what you pay for so don’t buy a cheap eBay pump, also minimum of 20 ltrs per minute flow so you get good pressure.

I installed this one last

Sun, 2018-03-11 19:24

I installed this one last year and am very happy with it. Much, much cheaper to buy it from the USA but bought all the fittings from Whitworths.

I got the Jacbco 6 before

Sun, 2018-03-11 20:33

I got the Jacbco 6 before and it was good whilst at rest but I wish I had went the 7 for that extra pressure As there was a big in pressure. My opinion is get the most powerful. It makes for easier cleaning and even better when your mates pull up in their boat next to you,and you give them a welcoming squirt.

 hey andy, best thing for

hey andy, best thing for pingers is a fire pump.  Chuck the intake of the side of your boat and aim the hose at them.

You can sink them in a matter of minutes.

I think mine is a johnson.

Mon, 2018-03-12 08:01

I think mine is a johnson.  But it isnt working at the moment.  I have had this issue before and found some shell grit had got in under the membrane.  Very important not to operate them in shallow water.

I believe they only have a shelkf life of about 5 years.  Mine is about that old so it may be a case of replacing it this time.  Wont know until i pull it apart.

As others have said, err on the side of more power.  You wont regret it.

Hey Jack

check this out on Ebay 250 lpm  not 20   Fire it up close to the ramp though otherwise you'll be carrying too much water. If self draining deck, then all good anyway                 43CC 1.7HP Petrol High Flow Water Transfer Pump Irrigation Volume Inch 1" 1inch

Johnson

Mon, 2018-03-12 09:22

 Andy

I installed one of these Johnson Aqua Jet 5.2 Wash Down Kit and it's awesome. Plenty of pressure and a decent strainer to stop the crap getting sucked up. I got mine from CH Smith i use them a lot not they have a good rqange and freight is fast.

Easy to install i even bought a cheap knock off Pelican case to mount it in to keep it dry

I researched this a bit for the new boat

Thu, 2018-03-15 13:20

Had heard lots of complaints about the lack of  longevity of Jabscos and Johnsons , consensus on another forum was that Shurflo's were the go. Very pricey over here, but managed to get one at a good price from the states. Comes bare, no fittings, but the are easy to get, Whitworths have them.  www.ebay.com.au/itm/SHURFLO-BLASTER-II-Washdown-Pump-12-VDC-3-5-GPM-4238-121-E07-4238-121-A07/201589982218   Cost me about $A172 delivered.

 I installed 2 jabscos, one

Sat, 2018-03-17 10:22

I installed 2 jabscos, one for deckwash and one for bait tank. The deck wash is a hotshot 6 kit. came with a good strainer and hose kit. Good pressure but the pressure switch shat itself after a year. Allboats got me a new swith under warranty and all good again now. Easy to replace the part too. seems to be Ok quality but I installed in a dry space which is the difference in making these things last..

Cheers mate, yeah been reading up on them a bit and most the motors aren't water resistant so need to go somewhere dry. I'm thinking up inside the transom.

 Yep, dry is good for

Wed, 2018-03-28 11:15

Yep, dry is good for anything with wires hanging off.

Here's my setup on the cruise craft. I added some plastic boards to divide off the bilge from the raised sides where my pumps and batteries live. Made a clear cover which allow hose down and keeps side compartments dry. Also recently added the deflector which directs all the floor water over the forward bulkhead and into the rear bilge.

Jabsco Pumps

Fri, 2018-03-30 21:11

First pump I installed was a Jabsco 12v pump and was not impressed. Later installed a 1" engine driven Jabsco, excellent pump with good pressure and a high flow rate relative to engine RPM.

What size inlets and hose are you running?

Mon, 2018-04-02 10:47

Looking at the spare port size on the Johnson twin port bait pump I am running from the inlet and the size of fittings on the shurflo pump I have bought, I divined that a 1/2" BSP size inlet and 1/2" hose would be enough on the inlet side. Pump is only 45 PSI and 14 LPM rating--will this size on the inlet be enough, or am I going to restrict it? I see lots of 3/4 hose on installations lately. All the twin port pumps seem to be 1/2" BSP anyway on both ports.  "ie, if you actually measure across the thread, is it about 3/4" 19-20MM" this means 1/2" BSP or NPT"

edit--after looking at the flow-rite webpage again, it look like all the quick-lok fittings in the bait tank  kit are 3/4" hose size.

Tight

Mon, 2018-04-02 10:48

Man I'm tight - bought a flojet knockoff for $75 from a clearance place in Malaga, I just drop a clear hose over the side for the pickup (has a fanky jig on the end to keep it in the water!) and have the $16 green coil hose set from bunnings. Scrap piece of PVC pipe keeps it tidy.

I went 25mm on the inlet

Mon, 2018-04-02 11:51

I went 25mm on the inlet side because that was the pipe size on my seacock/pickup. I also have 2 pumps running off it & 3 way valves which were also 25mm fittings. Made it a bit harder to route pipework in the tight space but I managed. I reckon 19mm would be sufficient..

Just did some more research

Mon, 2018-04-02 15:39

Shurflo only need a 12mm inlet because their hose tail on the pump inlet strainer is that size. So I need a 12mm tail off whatever size the Johnson second port is. But all the bait tank plumbing is definitely 3/4". The way I intend to plumb my tank should negate the need for a pickup tube for planing speeds. These Flow-rite kits have the standpipe type drain, where you cut it to length to keep the water level where you want. This screws into a fitting in the bottom, unscrew the pipe to drain the tank. So the tank will not drain, if your inlet is high, when the pump stops pumping. As the deckwash pumps seem to still work at speed, any run between spots longer than 10 minutes, with no fresh water entering the tank, will just require a quick burst of deckwash into it to freshen up the oxygen levels?

I'd always assumed these twin port pumps were only  to enable you just to use one thru-hull intake for both bait and deckwash. But just a little investigation showed me it is really meant for use on recirculating tanks, so you can just go to recirc when you are planing. Flowrite make an Auto valve you fit to the second port which operates on recirc when you are planing, fresh when you are stopped. But then i would need two thru-hull intakes. I think it is really more for catch livewells in tournament  boats than keeping some bait alive. Some good stuff on it here
