only sutiable reel i have is pen 330gti i have 1000 mtr spools of 80lb and 50lb
my sustain 8000 wont be upto the task nor will the 950pen
will this be ok as a one off trip will it hande a 30kg fish from that depth i know my arms going to be buggered after but its worth it or does someone rent out electric reels?

It's only 300m, you should be fine for a trip or two, no problems. Just lots of manual winding :p. Realistically, you might not be doing a lot more winding than if you fished say 90m (seeing as its a bit further out and you might leave your bait/jig down for the whole drift instead of replace). Though it is usually at one time rather than spread out :p.
Havent managed any 10kg+ fish from the deep yet, but when i've been, i've just used a regular reel and was ok. For those 30kg monsters, most of the guys manually wind their fish in anyways. The electric just takes the tedium out of winding up de-baited rigs and those damn greeneyes.

The 330gti will do the job
The 330gti will do the job for one mybe two trips but it will be hard work on you.
and 80lb is what you want on your reel
Can you get your hands on a two speed it will make it easy on your back
Dont drop till you know there are fish on that spot.
Hope this helps you

deep deep fishing
i agree with the above but i'd rather use the 950 penn with 500 of 50 on it than the 330 gti thay are hard work in any depth, but good luck!

deepwater.....
To get Hapuka etc your looking at 300-500m so more line the better. The Penn 950 spool with Berkley Whiplash braid (being very thin) would be only just enough but ideal would be a larger overhead. Head out early before the seabreeze puffs, its starts early out there.

I have a rod and reel you can borrow if you need it.Nothing special but its a 2 speed 16s penn on a 24 kilo rod so will handle it for the trip easy.I think it has varivas on it.Not sure how much but it has been out in the 200s a couple of times.
So tell me have you got your info from years on the water or hours on the internet?

World of hurt
Take a kidney or shoulder harness, your going to need it.
Just winding up a full set of greeneyes and your sinker will test you after the 10th time.

Advice
I'd take some of the advice above, wait until someone with a leccy reel hooks up or starts getting bites (to a good fish) go up the front of the boat and drop. Good chance you will still be over them unless the drift is really bad, will save you a lot of hurt by the end of the day.

mate get a
electric reel, i give you 3 or 4 drops and day over, welcome to green eyes, fished that depth at least a 1000 times and anyone that thinks electric reels are for pussys i will gladly give you a ride and you are more than welcome to bring your manual gear, but looking at fwa anyone can catch a fish from 400m lol

we use;
Patternoster rig, 2x 13/0 circle hooks, lumo hook sleeves and 150lb mono trace line with H/D tricrane swivels.
Heavy lead ie 48-50oz and if your onto fish & the currents good then 500g plus jigs work.

Its not that bad fellas
Its not that bad fellas :)
I've done the deep stuff a few times, not managed any harpuka or bass :(:( but pinkys a plenty, up to 6-8KG i rekon, in 200-300m.
2 speed, does the job, spent about 6 hours out there prob did 20 drops, even worked jigs.
Just think of it as a good work out at the Gym. :)
Getting a 30KG monster might be a different story! but well worth it when it breaks the surface I'd say!
