Demersal jigging/SP combo

Hi all, a very Happy New Year to everyone.

I am (up to this point) an uncoverted bait fisherman.

I would really like to broaden my fishing horizon by targetting some of the more popular demersals using jigs and SPs.

Knowing that I will only be doing this type of fishing in less frequency than bait fishing, I am chasing a combo which certainly wont damage the bank.

Is $150-200 too little to ask?  Don`t want to sound like a cheap skate, but I cant warrant buying expensive gear for something I won`t do as often.

Probably be spooling with 30lbs max.

Thanks in advance

Chris

i reckon $300 would get you an okay outfit

go a 4000 size spin reel and a 7 foot graph comp spin rod which is nice and lite. I have been using 20lb for jigging for snaps and dhu but a nice thin 30lb will do. some 20 to 40lb mono or flurocarbon leader and you are away!!

Cheap jigging combo....

Yeh, $200 doesnt really get much unless you're happy with a low end reel with a glass rod.
I'd go around $300-400 And trust me, you'll use it more often than you think.

Rods can be had relatively cheaply. Here's a couple we recommend, they're all well under $200

Pflueger Trion 7ft 6-10kg
Eupro Twincraft 6'2 PE 1.5 to 3.0

The reel I would spend more money on as it does take a lot of punishment as well.
These are some of the better value reels that can handle a bit of punishment.
Same as well at under $200

Shakespeare Arsenal 040
Daiwa Legalis 3000-4000
Daiwa Exceller 3000-4000
Shimano Symetre 4000FJ

Then add about $70-90 for good quality 20-30lb braid.

If you can, drop by and check out whats available and whats suits you. We're open on Monday 3rd as well.

figure out what you want by browsing a store for a couple of hours then ebay mate! even if its just reel and braid from ebay and rod from the store (if your like me youd be worried to open a shipped rod once you get it, guides could be all busted up!) and youll save yourself a good amount of money. sufix 832 is great google cabelas (thats where i got mine)
