Dickhead in Hillarys Marina..... ME.
Well, I was 'one of those blokes' this arvo.....total cock up of a pretty simple boat rule.....keep to the right.
Took my youngest bloke and his cousin for a quick fish this arvo, missus dropped us off to the marina and we jumped on the boat which is penned and headed out.
I was just explaining to the two young boys that you need to stay on the opposite side to the side you drive cars in Australia, when two small boats come head long toward us, yelling abuse I was on the wrong side.
With my boat being quite a bit bigger, plus me thinking I was on the correct side, and given this happening many times before with beginner skippers, I suggested this is not a car on the road, but a boat and suggested they move to the other side.
They refused to move over, so being the bigger man I moved over to the 'wrong' side to miss them...... I was not able to retort to the low level abuse they shouted at me given I has two young boys on board......
Anyhow, about 10 seconds later I realised what had happened..... The missus had dropped me off and I was onthe passengers side, in the car, and subconsciously thought I was on the correct side as I was on the opposite side to what I was in the car...
Now, I have had many boats over many years and done thousands of hours on the water..... And still complete rookie mistakes like this are possible.
I Had a bit of a chuckle with the boys, and I would like to apologise to the young blokes in the two boats who were actually in the 'RIGHT'......
Bloody senior moment.... Haha.
anyhow, ended well, a quick 90 minute fish fonr the two young fellas netted two KGs, a flattie, a heap of sand whiting and a chunky Baldie that went hard on whiting gear

Admitting the mistake
And being able to say sorry goes along way. At least you taught them what not to do

Classic
And we have all done it.
I have been on boats for years and have "never"forgotten the bung. Now I have my boat on a drive on dry dock and the routine checking has changed - well it happened with a brain fart. Lucky realised this and fixed pretty quick but it is so easy to forget.
And admitting to these errors is as mention Kudos but also educational as it reminds us all we are just human and make mistakes, and alert others and enforce us to remember them.
