Does changing the treble size on diving lures affect the performance in the water?
Submitted by Simo_ on Sat, 2008-01-12 18:43
I am in the process of changing my trebles on my diving lures and was wondering if changing the treble size (up or down) will change the way they swim in the water? the lures in changing trebles on are Laser Pro and X-rap. Anyone got any info - thanks

Nothing wrong with changing
Nothing wrong with changing your treble size, especially down, but you do have to be careful, especially on smaller lures. Larger trebles on a smaller lure can change the swim of the lure as more weight is added. However, if done properly it's a great way to get a lure to sink or float if you go up or down.
The key is to have a play a bit and see how it goes. You'll get an idea pretty quickly how different trebles, and treble brands, will change a lure. If you have a pool, use it as a test tank.

I've only ever done it when
I've only ever done it when I couldn't find a single that had an inline eye, ie; jaco tails. I prefer to take trebles out because they suck for releasing fish, and are just dangerous in the mouth of a big spanish or hoo.
