Down South Salmon Report?

Hey all

Just wondering how the el nino weather patern is going this season? are the salmon on their way up the coast or are they still way down on the south coast?

Heading down to fish anywhere along caves road that the salmon might be. Anyone had any luck between the capes or too early in the season?

Cheers,

Dave

Try early march, still too early even for front runners.

Seriously...

Going to have a whinge.

What is wrong with searching the internet and checking currents and weather?

At least wait til easter and give the season and cold currents a chance to start.  Its not 1970- we have 25 degree water in geo bay and west coast is 22 in spots.  Albany hasnt reported any yet so no way they are going to skip albany and just rock up off margs.  Let the warm currents and spanish macks retire to the north then you can start thinking about salmon.

I get sick of it being a month into the year and already hear people asking where the salmon are. Its still summer FFS- Just do some basic research.

Sorry, its friday and i havent had a chance to crack a beer yet to chill.

When you consider that some fishos have been catching residents from beaches around Cape Nat consistently since October ;-)

the temps around Cape Nat of 21-23c.

Yes, resident Salmon are being caught.

Looks very unlikely to have a 'normal' salmon run again this year

thanks lads! Except for u Brad Y.

Its a shame u have some valid input to give but have to present so immaturely.

Its hardly been a routine salmon run over the past few years so was simply seeing whats happening.

 Still a while from them

Fri, 2013-02-08 18:44

Still a while from them coming past Albany. Resident schools moving around everywhere with most beaches getting some every few days. but as brad said way to early for a true run yet with water round the cape still warm enough to have Mack's swimming around.

Trout

Fri, 2013-02-08 21:47

At this time of the year they are more than likely salmon trout on their run south, they usually are down passed Albany when the mature fish run north though I have seen them running late with schools of big fish crossing paths with small fish heading the opposite direction in Bunkers and at Smiths beachin March.

Sorry fellas but when people

Sat, 2013-02-09 08:45

Sorry fellas but when people ask the same thing all the time it gets a bit old.

I apologise for the tone but again its a month into the year and the warm currents are running strong on the west coast.  Yes there are resident fish- there always is, but for the annual migration no its not happening yet.  Look back to last year and the year before, we have the same strong warm current that caused the run to practically not exist compared to what we had in previous years gone by.  I will draw my assumptions from this and say salmon 2013 is going to be another non event and if I want to get out and chase them, then Bremer or Albany will be my destination of choice.  But your welcome to come down and have a go.

Good sources of info for the salmon run are

Southernfish forums http://southernfish.fr.yuku.com/

BOM Currents- you want to see some green pushing from east to west usually before they start firing http://www.bom.gov.au/oceanography/forecasts/idyoc10.shtml?region=10&forecast=1
