Dramas with mounting bracket for sounder
Submitted by barneyboy on Sun, 2011-07-10 19:04
Have a Lowrance HDS 5 sounder. I have gone through 2 mounting brackets so far with it in the space of 12 months. Has anyone else had the same problem? The bracket has been correctly installed. I am looking for a solution as I will either have to buy a 3rd bracket for another $25 at the chance of it snapping or find an alternative. Does any one have any suggestions? Cheers.

getting the bottom line final answer from a bunch of blokes that use false names and put smiley faces at the end of paragraphs is not the best place in the world to get the information you seek.

Garbo, they are made of plastic!!
the actual sounder head is so heavy though. Thanks supervisor will check those out. Strike zone, they are seriously just breaking on me and in a couple of places. I was playing around with the idea of making one out of aluminium? Its getting beyond the joke. Not just for price but the inconvenience of ordering it and waiting for it to come in!!

it snapping? its not comon for them to snap. sounds very unsual. maybe flush mount might be the way to go if it keeps happening? But like i said it is very very unusual and its not common that i have seen.

Um...? I think he said
Um...? I think he said Lowrance Damo, not Humminbird!
and yes I know where you are coming from!
I have an Eagle unit which is basically Lowrance with the same sort of brackets and I can think of maybe 2 things that may cause this for you Mark.
1 Have you got rupper washers on your wind in screws/securing screws? These you should have and will cushion the unit.
2 A common problem that I have experienced is UV degadation with all sun exposed parts of these units. When I am finished fishing and have removed all my electronics, I then cover any exposed cords and brackets with a towel.
Hope this might help a little?
