early morning + low tide = no whiting

Not very interesting, but... Had a go for whiting this morning at mandurah, went near the mouth of the Serpentine. Arrived at 6.30, in the middle of the bite time of 5.30 - 7.30. Tide was low (bottom of the tide was at about 5am). Used r2s bubblepop and berkley popdogs, all variety of retrieves. Fished the flats and the river channel, nothing except a few blowies. Heaps of mullet jumping, also heaps of small female crabs, was like walking through a minefield in places, got nipped a few times as well (might have squealed like a girl). Never saw a whiting.

So on this day, early morning + low tide = no good in my books, bite time didn't have any effect.

Piss funny, but not when it happen's to you, squealed like a sheila when unsuspecting crab bites ya foot, stil laughing at the thought of ya jumping out the water screamin lmfao, the whiting would better on the high end of tide, dawn crack or sun down.

haha yep reckon i nearly walked (ran!) on water a couple times, don't think i'll ever get used to that feeling of something moving under your foot then giving you a pinch. Have heard all manner of theories on when is best; some say tide not so important, best when sun is up (i.e. not early morn or late arvo). Some say rising/high tide is the go. Oh well, was only first try, just gotta learn from it and find what works.

My best session...

...caught ten, dropped another three, was at midday, at the very bottom of the tide. About eight of them were hooked in the same area, probably a five meter radius, and four different lures were successful.

About the only constant thing that I have found is you need a bit of chop when using surface lures...the theory being that the fish can get a better look when it's calm and can tell that it's a fake...
