East Perth Stabbing near Windan Bridge
POLICE are calling for witnesses following an altercation which saw a 49-year-old man stabbed in the leg in East Perth last weekend.
Perth City Detectives said the man was walking along the footpath near Windan Bridge at about 10pm on Saturday night when the incident occurred.
It is alleged the man stopped to talk with three men who were fishing from the bridge, and was stabbed in the leg by one of the men following an argument that developed.
A couple came to the assistance of the victim.
Police described the offender as of East Asian appearance, aged between 30 and 40 years, medium build and with black thinning hair.
He was wearing a purple shirt and khaki cargo pants at the time of the attack.

It had to Happen
All the hero's on here that like to say "chuck his bucket in the water" and the like when someone reports they see someone doing the wrong thing whilst fishing this is exactly what can happen he's lucky it wasnt in his gut. Not saying this was the case but you get my drift.

no one deserves to be stabbed
i hope the police catch the bloke who is guilty and he gets a few months jail for this his got the wrong attitude. its stuff like this that makes me carry pepper spray when im fishing because loonies get pissed off and selfish and resort to stupid actions like stabbing someone in the leg.

Didn't say he deserved it
I just said this was bound to happen if people go tackling people for something they think is doing the wrong thing because you dont know who your dealing with until you have a knife in your leg....or worse in your belly, as I said there are too many hero's on here who spout about taking action like this well this guy who was stabbed could have been one of these people...I'm sure if he has a wife and kids and he was dead they wouldn't take comfort in the fact he confronted someone who was likly to stabb him for a few fish or as was mentioned below a mess left behind.

yer your right mate im not havin a crack at ya
i reckon he would have right if he had pepper spray tho one blast of pepper spray would blind and disorientate his attacker and if the other blokes had a crack he could spray emn as well - i was one of the people talking about bucket kicking and i wouldnt be stupid enuff to confront a group of people by my self i wasnt suggesting break the law either just having a look in buckets like in the same sense as the phrase " tyre kicking "

If your not saying that was the case
Why say it at all, some people feel strongly enough to take some sort of action, as minor as that might be. Others don't, simple as that.

Because this can happen
I'm saying it because if you upset someone enough for whatever reason you can be killed he was lucky he could have even bled to death if an artery was cut, and saving a few undersize fish (if this was the reason) isn't worth dying for.

Another reason...
...to bring in a shore-based licence. Maybe I'm being naive, but in a perfect world the extra money would go to more patrols and cause people to think twice about breaking size/bag limits. In fact, people like the bloke with the knife probably wouldn't get a licence in the first place.
Come to think of it, it would most likely be just like the driver's licence. Just 'cause someone doesn't have one doesn't mean that they will stop driving/fishing, does it?

Licence? What does that have to do with how people behave?
Let's get this in the right perspective. It "seems" from what I have heard that the victim challenged over a mess that was left behind. He must have decided that he wasn't going to let these guys off and so an altercation developed. With this in mind I cannot for the life of me understand how this can be brought back to the licence issue. Does a licence automatically fine you if you leave a mess or breach the rules? I don't think so.
It's like dickheads doing burnouts and someone tries to do the right thing and gets involved. Ultimatly, the chances are that guy is going to get hurt. Licences don't change the attitudes of dickheads. Confrontation can bring out the best in dickheads I am afraid to say.

geeezz I thught fishing was a peaceful pastime. That guy's not a fisherman he's a criminal and a dangerous one too.The sooner he's caught the better. No one should have to face that kind of crap. I went past an intersection this afternoon with my blinker flashing accidently and a bloke waiting to get out went off his face as I went by. Following me down the road I thought this is one of those situations when things can turn ugly real quick.Luckily for me he got caught in traffic.not that I was scared I was probably twice his size and can handle myself ok, but if he had a knife same thing all of a sudden your dead,it's not worth it.The sad fact of life is that there's scum out there who don't think twice about throwing their shit everywhere and stabbing someone in the same breath.Sadly for us these pricks like to fish.

It is sad that this is the world we in today where grevious bodily harm or even death can occur over a minor disagreement. Situations can certainly get out of control and I suppose it is only wise not to intervene directly but to inform the appropriate authorites. On the other hand, I have witnessed a situation where a good-doer over step his bounderies by leaving a threatening note on a car with a dog in it, parked under a canopy of trees with plenty of shade and probably just away for a short period. The canopy of trees will offer shade all day as the parking lot is heavily lined with trees and also windows partly opened. The owner came and was furious noting his awareness of heat accumulation and has given consideration about his dog. Some good doers just do not think enough or perhaps too aqggressive in their approach. I think if the owner sees the person leaving that note, it will probably end up in a punch up, hopefully, not more than that.
