El Cheapo Outfit Does the Business

A few piccies of the second sambo from Saturday (thanks Langa).

Fish was fould hooked and was one of the toughest fights I have had for a long time, backing up on the fish 3 times with the boat and the fight taking over 15 minutes. Caught on my el cheapo outfit comprising Majorcraft Crostage (at $122, best value rod going around!) and a 4 year old Daiwa Tierra 4000 (at $105, probably not the best value reel around as the handles are crap......and it has been pulled completely apart about 4 times to unsieze it and add banana peels after too much abuse on big fish)........just shows you dont need the expensive gear......that being said, I think the Stella will get a gernsey next outing.......

Yup those Majorcraft

Yup those Majorcraft Crostage's are amazing rods for the money. Got a 60/3 paired up with my Ryoga 2020. Seems strange matching a nearly $600 reel with a $120 rod, but they are a match made in heaven :D

Already have the CRJ S60/3 and am about to get the overhead version of the same rod as well as the 60/5.

John, how did you find the action of the 60/5 on heavier jigs at the Montes an what line were you running on it?

The photo is the 60/4, which is really a PE2-3 rates rod.Perfect for 120-150 g jigs. We took 5 of these to the Monties, as all the guys wanted to try out jigging with a low priced outfit. They are great.

I also have the MC Alexander 60/3 which is a PE2 rod, and is pure, perfect for 80-100 g jigs. Expensive though.

At the monties, Baron had the MC 60/5 offbloe, the next step upfrom the Crostage. Nicer reeel seats and perfect for a Stella 8000PG, and good for 160 - 220 g jigs.

John, good fish on the lighter gear, cheers for the info on the gear and pricing. Dont own a jigging rod as yet but somthing at that price is very   attractive to get me started.

Goes to show that the cheaper gear can do the job, but I wouldn't rely on it everytime. Solid bit of fishing skill involved me thinks. Nice work John.
