electric trailer winch

hey guys, i am installing a electric winch on  my trailer to pull the boat on with. I am going to use the wiring loom supplied with the kit. Just wondering if there are any issues with running direct from the car battery while idling, as i am hearing that having a battery on the trailer is better, but i don't want to go that route. Surely the wiring kit supplied would be suitable !!

Any thoughts / advice is welcome

Wez depends on the winch and the load??

A powerwinch or the lower geared ones normally of a anderson plug from the car.

But ones like mine ( draws 600amps) and def needs its own battery on trailer. This is a much more expensive way to go!

 912 all good. Uses 60a

912 all good. Uses 60a breaker on the lead and just needs a anderson plug on the back of the car from normall battery. Just leave car running.

I use to have a pw but it was just underpowered  for my boat! Should be ok if your multiroller?

I have a 60A breaker you can have if you need one... just pay for postage and it's yours, think I paid $60 odd for it. It's just sitting around.

I have the next model up and have it directly wired ,no probs just keep the car motor running. The problem with trailer mount is that thieves are active at boat ramps and they are well equiped. Bold as brass and dont care what damage is done  in removing.

Hi Saint, no mate, promised myself i would not drag the boat that far again, as we had only 2 size snapper landed over 10 days. Want to try closer to home, maybe Greenhead or Leewan

Run mine off a jump starter

Run mine off a jump starter pack. Works a treat and take the jump starter on the boat as a back up. Don’t use the winch when with mates and just drive on but if it’s with the old man the winch is a lifesaver
