Wind knots

Casting with 4lb braid. The line is getting tangled around second last guide. I figured the line was so light the wind was doing it. Changed to 8lb same problem.  Not sure if it's the type of braid I'm using any suggestions will be appreciated. Want to stay as light as possible.

You'll likely have one of two

You'll likely have one of two issues mate both of which I've suffered from and they're better referred to as 'line management knots':

  1. Your leader knot is sitting on the spool and it is grabbing line as you cast so you need to trim your leader to sit above the bail arm.
  2. Extra line is coming off the spool as you cast and you are winding it back on loose so you need to pinch the line between your finger and thumb for the first few winds to lay it back on tighter.

I'll be willing to bet number one is your issue and would be happening at the start of your cast after I spend a frustrating morning trying to figure out why my new $700 bream combo was a " bleeping piece of shit".

Jackfrost80 is on the money. What rod are you using? I was having the same problem with my pfluger and now swapped to a majorcraft ( better guides and a much faster action) and problem solved. I found that the slower rods seem to have it happen more. But still happens if my knot is a little ugly and slows down through the guides. Into the wind i also change my casting style to a more smoothe push than a flick.

 If the line is wrapping

If the line is wrapping around the guide its not a wind knot problem. Shorten your leader, the leader to braid knot is probably trying to get out the guides faster than your actual leader and if they are cheaper guides it often will miss the guide and thus wrap around it causing a knot. Like rob said try a smoother cast into the wind if youre already running a short leader

Appreciate the help. I'll give it a go. It's a pain in the arse  when your trying too fish structure that needs a long cast too get there, but fu-kn line keeps wrapping.

Another tip i can give is

Another tip i can give is don't overspooled your line. Sometimes we overpacked the amount of line on the reel and when it comes out in loops, viola - windknot. Leave a bit of gap between your line and edge of the spool rim.

Also, try to pack the line onto the reel with a little bit of tension will help too.

 line management is the issue

line management is the issue in 99% of wind knots, you line needs to be spooled on a slight v , if its like this / \ you will have issues, needs to be like this \ / but not so exagerated. also when castin allow enough drop from the tip to your lure, usually 1/3 of your rod length is a good starting point and dont try overload when casting.
