Not quite sure of the type on offered here but EPIRBS are built to a standard, as are life jackets.

What you need to consider is if at 0100 in the morning, you have experienced full electrical failure and your anchor line has snapped. You are caught in a squall and drifting towards Straggelers. What sort of safety equipment do you want?

Personally, I have one GME units, and one of the $200 BCF jobbies. When the shit hits the fan, GPS units in an EPIRB could save a life.

I agree. Epirbs with GPS are highly recommended. I think the GME units now come with 12 years of battery life (6+6) which means they change the battery for you after the initial 6 years. Not a bad deal I reckon!

I've got with a GPS that is supposedly acurate to 5m.

they are like reserve parachutes mate. chances are: if they don't work the first time you need them.......you'll never need them again.

These are gps units for $289.00 I have not found any negative comments they have a 10 year battery life and 10 year australian warranty

and yes I thought the same thing they have to be made to a standard and can't see them being allowed to sell them if they where substandard .

also let's face it gme's had faulty units for a time
