What you need to consider is if at 0100 in the morning, you have experienced full electrical failure and your anchor line has snapped. You are caught in a squall and drifting towards Straggelers. What sort of safety equipment do you want?
Personally, I have one GME units, and one of the $200 BCF jobbies. When the shit hits the fan, GPS units in an EPIRB could save a life.
I agree. Epirbs with GPS are highly recommended. I think the GME units now come with 12 years of battery life (6+6) which means they change the battery for you after the initial 6 years. Not a bad deal I reckon!

I've got with a GPS that is supposedly acurate to 5m.
they are like reserve parachutes mate. chances are: if they don't work the first time you need them.......you'll never need them again.

These are gps units for $289.00 I have not found any negative comments they have a 10 year battery life and 10 year australian warranty
and yes I thought the same thing they have to be made to a standard and can't see them being allowed to sell them if they where substandard .
also let's face it gme's had faulty units for a time
