Epirbs 406

Bob just come back from his local tackly shop (Club member) needed new flares before we go away.  The owner was saying that he has 60 people waiting for the new epirb 406 on his books.  Apparently it could take as long as 6 months to fill his orders, scarce as hens teeth.  So I hope everybody was lucky enough to get theirs early.  Sounds like also they could be over $500.00

Bought 3 while over east at xmas from a BCF store, after a bit of bargaining got them for $400 each.Salesman questioned why we got them over there and not at home as they had heaps in stock and should have been priced the same in their stores over here.Someone is doing a lot of ripping off somewhere

Not to metion the fact that some of the boating stores here in perth seem to be stocking only single types of EPIRBS rather than a small range of different priced and quality ones. I got mine about 2 years ago, so no troubles for me, but had one of my mates say that his local store has about 100 on backorder for customers.

Might be interesting looking into the whole getting them from interstate.

Got mine 2 years ago when they were first being pushed, figured that I might as well do it once and for all.  They weren't cheap back then either, about $400.

gme electrophone

Thu, 2009-01-08 15:41

My mate works for gme electrophone and says he has about 3000 units permanantley on order they cant promise delivery to dealers within 6 weeks, he explained it's not the manufacturing thats the problem rather that each unit has to be individualy tested for 48 hours in a sealed tank and GME have 10 tanks and seeing as everybody left it till the last moment (like me) to get them hence the delay in delivery! they have also gone up in price by 25% from last year.

To all the virgins..............Thanks for nothing!

EPIRB

Thu, 2009-01-08 17:01

Went up to Perth on business today and on the way home I stopped at a Boat yard in Mandurah to inquire about purchasing a 406 EPIRB they had 60 people on the books and were expecting a delivery of 30 by the end of the month at $525 each for GME brand. When I got back to Bunbury I rang around and the best price I could get for a basic GME 406 was $500 so I joined the que of 48.

Been told this is an International thing and DPI have said, "No excuses, your've had 2 years to prepare for it!"

Found out today my one on order which is part of a bulk deal and was only costing me $395 will now be delayed for 6 weeks.

Managed to get the last 2 from a Queensland store over the internet for $460 and put on Niteroad.

So I'll end up with a cheap one up for sale when it comes through.

Ring around!

Sat, 2009-01-10 14:49

Pays to ring up the independant shops also in your EPIRB quest, you'll probably save a few $$$ also!

I know Michael from Angler Spot in Willetton  (Ph # 9259 6118)  He's got the GME MT400 for $460, we both got them in but i'm sold out on all 406 versions but he still has a few!

Ryan... Your a Champ!!

Sun, 2009-01-11 20:17

Ryan, Once again you are a champion with your advice. I put my name down at one of our local NOR stores 3 weeks ago for an order due in mid Feb and remembered last week that we were going down Busselton 31st Jan. (Wasn't too concerned "legally" about timing originally as most of our boating is in the epirb exclusion zone between coast and rottnest) and have been ringing around and calling into places for the past week. To cut the story short... I rang Michael this morning and he has put one away for me to pick up tomorrow morning Smile Smile.

Thanks again "Champ",

David
