Establishing a State Record?

This is not something I've actively thought about whilst fishing. But having caught my PB Breaksea at 50cm and, from AAAWA list ( http://www.aaawa.iinet.net.au/StateFishingRecords.html#_B ) showing the state record as 3.000 kg, I thought the one I caught MAY have come close. Unfortunately, I didn't weigh my catcg and the AAAWA doesn't give weights.

So, what's the process in establishing a record? Do your scales have to be of a certain type (standard) and what about line class etc?

I guess if you were in a club comp and had a weight in, it would be easier to accept validity, but what about as an individual?

Info guys?

contact your local reputable tackle store about where you can get it weighed ,my understanding is you can at a butcher that has had the electric digital scales set to correct specs to verify the exact weight, but dont quote me on this, just my understanding

I need to get myself some

Sat, 2008-10-25 10:28

I need to get myself some decent (non spring) scales down the track perhaps and start weighing them to build up a better idea - even with the spring scales - mind you, there'll be variations due to body bulk and condition perhaps.

depending on the rules,

Sat, 2008-10-25 13:01

depending on the rules, generally unless its a game club its not via line class, all fish need to be weighed on certified scales, butchers etc and full details of date that the scales got certified need to be supplied, lengh and girth of fish need to be recorded and a clear photograph for identification, and from memory ideally the fish should be kept whole afterwards if any verification needs to be done.

Yeah mate, was feigning dissapointment Laughing - mind you, we get porcupine fish down here - usually catch at least one each session (caught one last week) - stoopid things -aquatic spikey water bags LOL.

Sandra loves them because they have big brown eyes and therefore look cute. Undecided

There a bugga to get hooks out of - like removing a hook from a shifting bench vice Yell

Russ...

I've never seen or caught porcupine fish other than on the outside reef systems - when you talk about emu point etc - are you sure you don't mean southern puffer fish - as I've caught those occasionally in Oyster Habour when targetting bait fish.

Here a pic of a pufferfish:

The ones I've caught all seem to be the same size - that of a large 'blowie'.

Here's a pic of a porcupine fish:

The ones I've caught (will take a photo next time - maybe there's a record to be had Tongue out) 12-14cm (approx) in circumference.

How many of you actually

Mon, 2008-10-27 23:05

How many of you actually kill blowies when you catch them? I used to stab and pop them and have some fun but in the last couple of years if he doesnt swallow my hook, ill throw him back.

Interesting to see how many of you throw them back or kill them or whatever you guys do.

One time we filled a bucket in warnbro we counted 112 blowfish, in my large bucket with airator, made for the best photo! My mate killed every single one of them.

What would change if we were to take blowies out of the waterways?

Bob kills, you'd be so surprised of the good hooks you find in their belly including your own.  Make good cray bait
