Eva or aluminium power knob or carbon or cork

Have an older Certate that I want a ball knob for but don't know whether to choose eva or aluminium. What are your thoughts? What's pros & cons?

 Aluminium. I am geting one

Aluminium. I am geting one for my certate in a few weeks time.

I just replaced the EVA one on my rarenium with an Aluminium JM. The difference is amazing. Some people say they are only for looks but I honestly think that it makes the reel feel so much better.

what about carbon composite? Forgot about that. It's much lighter and doesn't have aluminium slippery cold feel.

 Cork ball knobs are

Thu, 2013-06-27 08:01

Cork ball knobs are virtually non existent. There's cork knobs for the baitcasters but that's about it. Anyway, having some cork boards left over from my cork flooring I cut one up and glued it up to make a cube. Premeasured where I was going to cut up the T-handle off my Daiwa. All real 4 reels use the same T knob up to 4000 size. When glue dry then I started to shape it. Just got a rough cylindrical shape then drilled a centre hole at the top to mount on a bolt which goes into drill. Turn drill on and use coarse sandpaper first to get ball shape and then final sanding with 220 grit. When I cut the wings off the T-handle I found that it is made of cork with rubber overlay. Hole is ultimately necessary to be able to remove handle. Hole becomes a problem as how to stop water ingress. Solved this by using daiwa's own cap for the hole in the knob. Just cut an indent in the cork to fit. Haven't glued ball handle in place yet as need to use it and find out if I need to make finer adjustments. What I will probably do in the end is use silicon sealant as this will allow me to remove knob when necessary. Initial feel is great. It's not perfect due to my enthusiaism in sanding, took too much off at the bottom. However, as it didn't take long to do I can do another pretty quick. Best thing cost me nothing but time and I can shape it to suit me. If I like it I may do this for all my other Daiwas.
