Exmouth Comp 2011...

Ok fellas so who's been stocking up on tackle and gear for the comp?

How many of you have lightened the wallet on new rods and reels?? I know I have..

Also what species are on your list and what's on your things to do? My team is after a nice red on placcy and I know a few other guys comin up are chasing a few GT's.

Look forward to meeting yall there.

Cheers Lloyd

Marlin Stick

Fri, 2011-03-25 14:29

Got a new tiagra 50 w on the way and just got a nice 24kg stick to go with it.  Apart from that, not sure what we are going to target, just see what the weatherman says. :)

Nearly every popular fish is on the list, but trevally are an all species category, so you may find someone catches a 5kg bludger trev which is LONGER than a 20kg GT, just food for thought.

Any chance you'd re-structure

Mon, 2011-03-28 14:41

Any chance you'd re-structure that for future comps?? Doesn't seem like a very good way to do it?

How so Jay? for every other

Mon, 2011-03-28 15:32

How so Jay? for every other catagory it works fine, the trevally/queenfish catagory is the only one that is could occur. It gives everyone a chance to claim the prize not just those who want to target GT's for someone like you it shouldn't be a problem as last years winner was a golden trev at 85cm from memory.

I just think that GT's should

Mon, 2011-03-28 15:48

I just think that GT's should be in their own seperate category from the generic bludgers/goldspots/goldens etc... Doesn't make sense to put in the effort targeting them it it could potentially be beaten by a fish less than half the weight.

Suprisingly I haven't bought much tackle lately and have no plan for the comp yet. Will just see what the weather delivers and decide from there.

Most of my budget has gone to

Fri, 2011-03-25 14:54

Most of my budget has gone to Beer and a new Sound System for the boat. hahaha

Nah, I've bought a heap of new pushers and been pre making a few gar rigs. With 2 Billie newbys on board my first few days will be spent clearing lines, barking orders and hopefully leadering and tagging fish.

Got some GT gear on board. Bit of Deepwater Jigging gear and dedicated plastics rigs and a couple of secret weapons.

Should be a totally bait free 2 weeks unless we get a total glass off decide to have a crack at a Broadie.

Also got a new Rob Allen that needs a run.

if the weather plays nice

Fri, 2011-03-25 15:36

if the weather plays nice we'll have a crack at a billie but for the comp we are targeting the bottom species and if that fails LB. plenty of SP's ready, new combos everywhere and just waiting to see what the weatherman says

2 potential lows forming off

Mon, 2011-03-28 14:34

2 potential lows forming off the coast this week it seems, at worst we won't get a good warmup if they come down the coast but the water will be stirred up if they come south, something for everyone to keep thier eyes on

well one is heading off to

Thu, 2011-03-31 08:21

well one is heading off to the west and no issues. BUT the one off darwin is going to be interesting. Ok all you people who know more than me what's it going to do, i'm sure all those towing up from Perth woukld love some piece of mind before taking the long trek north only to turn around and head home. Not so bad for myself it's only 5 hours away but hows this potential cyclone affecting everyones trip north?

guess

Thu, 2011-03-31 08:47

I'm guessing we'll get some pretty shitty northerlies at the start of next week and then things will start clearing up nicely for the comp.  I'd be suprised if it kicks up into too much, but worth keeping an eye on it.
