Exmouth Crays and Mud Crabs
Submitted by vscorsa on Sun, 2014-05-11 11:33
Hi All,
We are heading to Exmouth on Tues for a couple of weeks and have grabbed valuable info off the site as always.
I am however chasing some more information on the mud crab and cray situation. Are there any main places and tricks when trying to catch mud crabs?
Are there many crays up that way? I am taking some snorkeling gear and a snare so after any advice on this one as well.
Thanks
Bodie

we were up there a few weeks
we were up there a few weeks ago out snorkelling around the islands. Didn't find any crays in shallow (Under 3m) but there were a few in the 4-6m depth.

dont worry
the crays up there are the vegetarian type (not that great on the plate) don't worry about your snare just have a good pair of gloves and grab them , for muddys you might need to head a bit further north to Onslow and hit Beadon creek

you can get the muddies south
you can get the muddies south of town in the creeks that run off from the gulf, however the tracks to get there can get muddy. decent 4x4 a must

Muddies are definitely in
Muddies are definitely in exmouth as I am currently driving home from exxy, and we get them every year. Bay of rest area . Think outside the box. Don't just go to the first set of mangroves , certain areas get raped.

I'm heading to Emouth next
I'm heading to Emouth next month and would be keen to have a go at catching some muddies if the wind gets up. Does anyone know if you can launch your boat at Learmonth? If you can I'm guessing it would be a beach launch. Otherwise it's a 40km trip from the Exmouth Marina ramp!
Do the right thing and there will be fish tomorrow.
