Hey guys Im heading to exmouth over christmas, I was hoping to catch a few big GTs, does anyone know where the best spot to try and what method to use? Also where do the big queenies hang out around that way? your help would be greatly appreciated.

i was told the rocks shelfs
i was told the rocks shelfs off VFL bay to the east of the shipwreck (can't remember it's name) queenies will be there also. same technique as the rest of the boys use up here, reel with 10kg minimum, at least 50lb braid and a rod that will handle chucking 150g worth of popper or stickbait and either "walk the dog" with the stickbait or bloop the popper across the surface with a 1-2sec pause in between pulls of the rod.
Just make sure ALL your tackle is up to the fight, terminal tackle included. Also you can get some small snapper off there too. Hope that helps.

Yes that's the other name
Yes that's the other name for it i believe, same spot but then again i heard of another oysters down the cape a little on the reef side as well?
Take the road to the wreck on the cape, take the last right and drive down there about 600m and then walk over the dunes to the rocks.

From my (limited) experience
From my (limited) experience popping down that way the land based GT fishing can be a bit hit and miss. On one occasion though me and Kasey had a pretty hectic session down at the Naval Pier (100m exclusion zone) where we were smoked on 100lb gear about 6 times in an hour.
If I were you I'd try to get out on a boat and either hit the islands or back of the reef for some more consistent action.

thanks fellas, I heard about
thanks fellas, I heard about oysters too and the naval pier, so you cant actually fish of the pier you have to be atleast 100m away huh? what would happen if you got caught? have you guys seen the pier cam underneath there, lots of fish hanging under there, some big trevs too. might look into hiring a boat for the day when we go.
smoked on 100lb gear.....oh crap, i might need to upgrade, were they big GTs?

i will tell u wot will
i will tell u wot will happen if u decided to fish off the Naval Pier u could be prosecuted, as some people r about to find out. Sorry to wreck ur day. You can fish either side of the Pier, land based must be 100 mts either side of the Pier, there r two yellow poles to show u the set distance.
Cheers

we had no luck casting along
we had no luck casting along Oysters one arvo, we put probably 2 hours into it and walked the full length, maybe sight casting smaller poppers along the bundegi coast for some queenies would be worth a look.
Or as jay said, get out to the islands and find some fun with the GT's

100lb leader would be my
100lb leader would be my choice. I think 50lb is a bit light if you want to stop the big girls, but it will be fun if you do hook one!

100Lb
100Lb leader and make sure you have a couple meters of it on there. Whatever you hook will try and run you around the rocks and they are sharp. Check the leader before each cast, as i'm sure you would, because even the small fish hit and run you down. When the sharks move in time to pack up and move.
Good luck.
