Exmouth mackies fishing

Hi All,

We're off to Exmouth next week for the first time. Hoping to get a few mackies and maybe a marlin to! Never really targeted any of these fish before just wondering if anyone can give some advice on game plan, rig, knots, ect. Ive got 80lb braid on my tyrnos and want to know the best way to tie it to 150lb and 300lb leader?? Got the box loaded with Halco 190's poppers and a few grassy and jnr oscars. Any advice would be awesome!!!

Cheers

Gt knot if your running that heavy leader other wise an Albright. I don't usually fish braid while trolling just mono with a Bimini twist looped onto a wind on leader of your choice. Then f having Mack's I run a meter london piano wire trace

Running mono on your spool is preferable, you can still use braid, just set your drag a bit looser (still a coupla kg's)

Might be easiest for you to run swivels if your not the best with your knots.  Just go through your swivel eye twice so you have a loop, run back up your mainline 8 or so times, back down the mainline 8 or so times and then back through the loop on your swivel - this will hold your briad.  Then you can either crimp or tie your mono onto the other end of the swivel.  150lb leader will be fine if you are going for small blacks, if you are heading wide then get the 300 on.  For the macks, have wire on at all times, just crimp both ends and if you want extra security crimp with a flemish eye (google)

wind on leader

i cant be arsed learning any other new knots, these never fail so KISS - Keep It Simple Stupid

catspaw (multiple loop to loop commection) braid to wind on leader -(you tube it)

easy and strong

braid is ok for trauling for mackies, use a wind on leader to a swivel, then use a wire trace to your lure, wont let you down
