For those not up to date on what is happening around Exmouth, here’s a bit of news:

Rio Tinto have begun the process to start FIFO work from town with 15 jobs to start in November and with plans for expansion to numbers around the 100 mark, possibly more depending upon the success of the operation.

There is a new Limestone out-loading facility being built at Two Rocks (Light Industrial Area) which is expected to run out to the 4-6m line with possible plans of expansion depending upon the success of the venture, but rumours have it that building will commence next week and the areas surrounding for loading have already been cleared.  There are already serious limestone stockpiles there ready to go.

The Tantabiddi boat ramp funds have been allocated and ramp design finished, apparently work on this is going to start very soon according to the Shire News Letter.

Chevron or a subsidiary of Chevron have either bought or are leasing the Kailis factory site and this is going to be a work base for the off-shore industry (anyone who knows more accurate details on this, please feel free to fill us in) starting soon, all the Kailis boats are being fitted out to be process fish/prawns on the boat for next season.

There’s also some other news about, but it’s a bit early for it to be published – but things are looking the goods for up here!

Most importantly, the weekend before last saw some very big blue marlin raised and hooked (not landed though) and several striped marlins were hooked and landed with one boat having a pod of three 80-100kg stripes come up.  It shouldn’t be long before the sails hit the gulf and what is even better, the water temps are on the way up and rumours have it that one local did well spearing yesterday in crystal gulf water (even after it blew all day long)
