Exmouth report - 4-3-10
Well, knocked off at 3, got the boat in the water not long after 3.30 with Deepwater. Got about 500m out of the marina and there they were, tuna after school of tuna feeding on the masses of baitballs. After seeing the action last Saturday we knew they weren't going to be far off. First few casts had hookups to be sharked after a fair while. Second lot of casts were with stickbaits which also got destroyed, we then went to plastics and got destroyed. A few sharks moved in so we moved to another school (schools everywhere over a 5km radius that we checked) We ended up landing a few, hooking heaps, loosing a few and sitting back and watching the mayhem quite often just not casting in awe at the feeding frenzy on the baitballs. Highlight was Jeffo hooking a tuna at the boat and 3 10ft tigers chasing it to a screaming reel (caught bits of it on vid cam) and a solid 1m ++++ queenie coming up to check out Jeff's lure in the middle of the tuna feast. Here's a few pics, will edit up the video when I get some time. We caught and released all fish landed, awesome fun.
Cheers,
Adam

could do
You could do, probably better off running little school mack, rainbow runners, queenies etc, slimmer body mass means less pressure at the rod end and less pressure you can run on free spool to allow them to eat without feeling the 'weight'
I'm not really a bait runner coz I can't be bothered stitching and lures have always been good to me. But if I was into comps and the like and wanted more of a hookup rate then I would do so. I like the 'easy style of billfishing' rather than watching teasers every second and being ready to switch etc etc, even though that is very exciting, you just have to be on the pulse all the time and if its a slow day, it gets pretty tedious and you start seeing things after a few hours!

Probably the biggest
Probably the biggest longtails we saw on the last exmouth comp were in the gulf and not more than 2 mile from the marina.

Great Pics
Some nice pics there. The fifth one down is a ripper - nice light, good composition and great colours on the fish. Looks like great fun.
Just got back from Exmouth myself - certainly didn't see any conditions like that!
Cheers, Cam.

Always working mate, just happens that often working is fishing. ;) Monday's billfish was at work, just not what we 'needed' to catch.

yep
Was peeved I didn't take it KC, said that after getting into them on Sat as well. Just keep forgetting to take it as I'm not really a fly fisho. Once you see the vid though, you'll be going, OMG, you don't even need to cast....
