Exmouth Report
A great time was had in Exmouth despite the numerous bad weather days. We punched it out every day and did as much as the conditions would allow.
Many thanks to Till and Alfred - two of the best deckies about. Life was much easier with two competent lads onboard in the sometimes trying conditions.
Many thanks Adam and crew for organising the comp and for your hospitality for the presentation night. Big kudos to the various prize sponsors too.
Well Team Social did some damage and it wasn’t to the Exmouth fish stocks.
We had;
A full teaser lost as a welded ring on a swivel failed.
Smashed cup holder on the boat (Jamie lost balance in the rough water)
I snapped my Pflueger Medalist trying to leader a long tail tuna in (the crew were busy on fish)
Jamies new rod ( some fancy 2 piece), became a 3 piece from a back cast from someone on the boat.
A few eye lets went missing in action.
Dented marlin board from Jamies head (lucky he didn't go unconcious - it was a big hit..ouch)
Busted toes
Weld on bowrail failed
2 inch split in prop blade from turtle strike
Chipped transom corner from bundegi jetty strike
New 27 Mhz aerial fell apart
Destroyed Soft Oscar from Spaniard in 70 metres
Snapped rod gimbal from big marlin
Spooled 15kg reel whilst doing 21 knots (who can hear a ratchet at that speed)
Soiled jocks from shark attack whilst swimming with Whale sharks.
Oh well , we had fun.
A few pics;
Typical day out from Tantas
The spread;
First stick face aboard my boat;
(appropriate it was my strike too!)
Sucker fish from the Marlin;
Dolly Release;
Something from the gulf;
Last day in Exy – heading for Long Island;
Only cray for the trip;
Popped Trev coming in;
One of many Whale Shark encounters;
Sea snake;
Moray;
Deco Time (thanks Gully & Ewan for a great dive);
Till next year.
Cheers Pete

we were up the 2 weeks prior to the comp, but did come home early.
Never saw the wind as bad as what it looks in those photos!!!!!!
But we did pull out of launching at bundegie due to wind and the chance of damaging the boat on the ramp.

Top Shot there Pete! Pete
Top Shot there Pete!
Pete is a real champ - did all the driving and most of the skippering on the trip as well, clearly with the most fishing and boating experience in the group. Yes, weather was not the best, but at least we got out everyday and did get to boat some fish.

good work fellas, when you hear weather reports you often think "yeah, I'd still go" but when you see photos like the first one it makes you think very differently.
Like the underwater photos, pity I missed it this year.

Nice pics Pete - the ones from the dive came up very nice.
How did the vid look from that one - the stuff Ewan took was pretty cool indeed. Quite an unbelievable dive that one when you tihnk of it. Think I got a few good piccies also but have to wait till I get back home to have a real good look at them.
Yeah the weather was trying to say the least but still everyone seemed to get into some good fish at some stage.
Will have to get you out to my grey nurse spot some time.

Top dive Gully...and looking
Top dive Gully...and looking forward to seeing pics from both of you. More light and cleaner water was needed for the wide shots; you know fitting 20 rankins into one shot can be difficult.
I'll edit up and a video/picture/beer session is the go.

Nice work Pete
Top photos Pete. Looks like you and the lads had a pretty good crack at what could only be called 'trying' conditions. Some awesome experiences no doubt. First giant gar on your boat and first swim with the whale sharks.
The best reason for doing what's right today is tomorrow.

Favourite Pic
Yeah, Thanks Bodie and BJ. One of my favourite shots from exmouth. The other shot shows more of the dolly, but I think the 'action' in this shot is better.

mate you do more damage than a rampage of schoolies on juice!
hope the marlin boards ok, Jamie will heal!
and finally dinged the hull did you! mmm need for a skippers refresher me thinks... or was giggle home brew to blame?

Don't even remember the 'ding' , but we did have waves and current to contend with at Bundegi. I blame the design of the bollards on the finger jetty - they pivot which is not great with the boat going up and down. No brew on board...there would have been way too much spillage or I would have smashed my teeth on the glass in those conditions.

good trip
looks like a good trip there boys shame about the weather.
im thinking of making a quick trip up there next week but looking at the weather reports it doesnt loook like it would be worth it.
is this type of weather unusual for exxy this time of year?
i thought its normally pretty good around now.
