Exmouth trip

Been a bit slack but thought I would chuck up some pics of my exmouth trip.  Was an awesome year again!

Metre plus queenie, sightcasted on fly

Golden trevally on fly

Longtail on fly

Did a few fly fishing shore bash sessions on our relax days

Plenty of queenies and dart kept us occupied

And spent the rest of the time chasing spangos, goldens and other tasties on lures.  In the two weeks only lost one fish to sharks.

Johnno- Third time in 3 years

Sat, 2013-04-27 20:39

Johnno- Third time in 3 years I got sharked.  Everyone moans about how bad the sharks are up there but if you fish smart you dont feed them.  Heard reports of 5 mackies lost to every one landed one day.  Dont know why people bother continuing to do it if they are so hard to get past.

Yeah had to do a rear exit, sadly didnt make it.  Went to turn it into fish curry then cleaning it the flesh was full of worms anyway.  Probably did it a favour.

Good stuff Brad. That queenie pic is a cracker. Love chasing the longtails in the gulf they go hard and are great fun. Didn't get around to it this year there is just too much to do in Exmouth. The different variety of fishing that can be done is amazing.

Mate the wand captures awesome

Pity about permits but who cares. You have to be in it to win it. What gear were you using. I suspect bigger than a 8wt, but if done on an 8 even more fantastic. Battled a nice GT on and 8wt, and the GT won. Bye Bye 8wt.

Looks like a great trip.

Yeah mate I was using a 9wt.

Sun, 2013-04-28 15:24

Yeah mate I was using a 9wt.  Wanted a crack on the queenies with the 7wt but in hindsight it wouldnt have been as good.  9wt is perfect for around the flats.  For tuna a 10 would probably be the go.  One thing is for certain, the flyrod is probably one of the most useless levers ever invented.  Pulling up tuna in 17m of water was hard work when they got on their side.

Yep pelagics really are fun

Sun, 2013-04-28 20:54

Yep pelagics really are fun on fly, but a bloody hard workout.  Got to find a 12wt for florida tarpon which might see a bit more use in WA that I thought it might...

Oooh Dreams

Some of the clips I have seen off those huge Florida or Cuban tarpon make me drool. My arms might be getting a little long in the tooth for those behemoths.
