Hey all. I have been helping the perth game fishing club with the fads to get them ready for the season approaching. I know alot of you use the fads and i'm pretty sure they would love some help with the preparation and deployment of the fads this year. All work is done via working bees. there is one coming up soon so it would be good to get some more help. You don't have to be a PGFC member to give a hand.
Will post working bee date when they organise it or contact PGFC via their website

getting theropes and fads
getting theropes and fads ready for deployment at all marine services. Then they truck them to the fisheries base and load them on to i believe the naturaliste and head out to drop them. You can also get on and help on the boat to deploy them.

Pls dont link it to the spearo's forums. If they help they will claim the right to dive them.

Whats wrong with that
Whats wrong with that Alfred? Spearos have just as much right as anyone else to get a fish or 2 and if they do it by growing big brass ones and getting in the water out there then good on them.
I spear as well though in a bit shallower than the Fads, if the opportunity arose then I would get in out there for a look.
Most of the spearos I know are very concious of the rules and very careful to stick to them as spearing already has a bad rep for raping and pillaging among the general population. I can promise you that even on a good day spearos kill less fish(keepers and definately bycatch) than line fishos. Yep I do both and enjoy both.

Marble - When the spearos
Marble - When the spearos dive the FADs, two things happen
1 - The fish go shy
2 - Some spearos have little consideration, they jump que at the FADs and just motor up, jump in then stay at around the FADs - then the fishos have to keep the 50m rule and don't get to drift by, sure not every spearo does that, but so far most the spearos I have encounted at the FADs have done that. The only one that joined the que for the drift then didn't hog the FAD was a tiny dinghy with 3 spearos onboard. They were the only ones considerate enough to join the que of boats lining up for the drift and were happy to drift away with the surface current, they got my respect, but then again, see point one.
Oh, forgot to mention, I use a straight hook too.

Well, if the spearos really want a fad, I guess they could put one in?
After all, the fads are put in by the pgfc, not any of the spearo clubs.

FAD Busy Bee
Hi all, just saw this thread and thought I'd add some information.
There is a FAD bust bee at All Marine Services on unit 2/25 Emplacement Crs Hamilton Hill at 1000 Sat 14th November. We are putting the FADs together and trucking them down to Royal Perth Yacht Club in Fremantle awaiting deployment by the TAFE vessel - Maritime Image. Deployment date will hopefully be on the 28th november.
As a side point I went out with a couple of us from the PGFC committee yesterday quite wide (out to 1200m) The water temp was up to 20.8, plenty of Southern Bluefin Tuna around. We got one run off something that we didnt see hit on the shotgun but other than that all quiet. We found a DPI measuring FAD out there and some cray pots that maybe fisheries must be using for testing but all of these werent holding any dollies.
I hope I get the chance to catch up with a couple of FW members at the busy bee.
Cheers

Who knows
The run pulled about 30m of 15kg and being on the shotgun the drah was up on strike but by the time Mark went to set hooks he came up loose. We worked the area for a while but no second chance.. None of us on board saw a thing but hard to tell. Maybe a good Tuna maybe a Marlin. Either way its amazing the adrenalin that runs when that Tiagra screams (even if for a short burst).
