FADS

G'day all. Just wondering if there are any dollies on the FADS at the moment and if so what size. Are the divers still a nuisance? I only ask as I haven't been out there for a couple of years for that reason.
Thanks, John

none
no dollys, still too early. the divers have scared them all off. the mutton birds have also fucked it. nearly all the fads have moved or been hit by ships.
dont waste your fuel. stay at home and drink beer.

Went out to RFW 5 FAD last
Went out to RFW 5 FAD last week , about 10 boats and at least 6 divers in the water and a shit load of mutton birds as scotto said. Trolled around for a couple of small tuna then went for a bottom bounce in the 90-100m for a nice snapper. Conditions were perfect for boating (27 knots there and back) but not much fish caught .

Yes
And while I am not anti-divers, the minute they do so basically establishes an "exclusion zone" around the FAD, preventing other boat from approaching.

yeah was wondering how that
yeah was wondering how that would work. cant really do a drift through when you got people in the water :/ im yet to get out there, but does seem to be a bit inconsiderate IMO.

Divers and Fads
What happens if your doing a drift and casting for pelargics and a boat pulls up within 50 metres of you and half a dozen divers go over the side and put their dive flag up.
Never had it happen but just asking what the score is if such a thing happens.

According to the rules
Therein lies the problem because the DOT website (quoting the Regulations I assume) states:
"All boats must keep at least 50 metres clear of boats, buoys or areas showing diving signals.
Where this is not possible, the approaching vessel should:
So I guess the question is,was it impossible for the approaching boat (with the fisherman on board) to keep at least 50 metres from the divers in the water. Putting aside the Regs I'm guessing most of us would not be comfortable with driving up to a FAD to start a drift when there are divers in the water IMO. Long way to go to not be able to do a drift!

Should be deisgnated times
Should be deisgnated times for diving might be an idea. To deep for dive boat to anchor right? What if the fishing boat arrived before the dive boat?
I wish jet skiers would adhere to the 50m rule

Fads code of conduct says
Fads code of conduct says all take turns doing a drift past.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

Good question. How often are people seeing spearos? I haven't even seen another boat out there yet.

I'm on a spearo page on
I'm on a spearo page on Facebook and they encourage other members to drift in line with line fishos. So jump in, drift through, jump out and loop back around and do it again

Fisheed that FADS a couple
Fisheed that FADS a couple Wednesdays ago (day the fog came in) got to the FAD nice and early (530am). Two fish on the deck by 6am, was awesome could see dollies cutting across the surface behind the lures - missed a couple strikes too. First boat rolled up (6am) put spearo's in the water right next to the FAD and the fishing shut down totally - only saw them shoot one fish.
I know it is everyones ocean, but it does suck, when you make all the effort of getting out there nice and early and you get half an hours fishing in before someone ends it for you. Went to another FAD that had already shut down. No surpise with a couple big boats running more or less straight over the FAD and doing very short runs.
Not the first time I have had my day 'ruined' by spearos at the FADS. Should have dedicated spearo FADS.

Great idea.
+1 for a dedicated spearo FAD. Great idea, that would keep divers safe and save fishos from getting frustrated after a long trip out there for nothing.....
Cheers & Stay safe
