I'm going to be teeing up my Stella 20K with a new Daiwa Sensor Surf ( when I get to the shop Leemo ;) so hopefully that will take care the big Tailor and Mullas if I get lucky.
Favourite, not ultimate - Starlo Stix 9ft 5-10kg with 5000 Stradic. Most will knock the rod but I'll also bet most of those people havn't tried one. Very light, super sensitive but plenty of grunt. I've handled plenty of good size Tailor & Salmon as well as Mulloway to 18kg on that combo. Besides, I'm not into flashy stuff like Stellas etc unless the fish actually demand that kind of performance.
I mainly use braid for long distance casting and for light beach bait casting. But for my heavier beach/rock work i use mono. Alot easier (and cheaper) to lose/break off some mono if snagged up. Plus better abrasion resistance for some of the spots i fish.
Most my beach/LB reels i use come with two spools so mono on one and braid on the other.
yeah thats the good thing about getting 2 spools! what weight line are you using? i find braid tends to tangle when there is weed about too, seen some nasty knots in the stuff!
I use braid on every outfit i own except my beach combo, May be old school but im very happy with mono for this combo. 12ft sensor surf with a saltist 4500h. Light and easy to fish but has some serious stopping power when it needs it. My line was always platypus platinum but when i droped down to the 4500 reel i had a good look at line diameter and found Sufix Duraflex at only 0.33mm for 10.8kg/23.8lb was the best. (platinum is 0.35 for 20lb) Cost me more but got the whole 300mtrs onto the saltist and so far it has performed flawlessly. I even had to up my leader from 30lb to 40lb as it was parting before my main line.
Daiwa Saltiga Ballistic 13ft paired with a Shimano Thunnus CI4 8000 filled with 600mt of Daiwa Tournament Accudepth PE braid. It's a fair bit of overkill but it casts a country mile and with 600mt on board I can do whatever I please, balloon, slide, fish the gutters. Love it.
that mully was caught in the boat in the swan on a tld 25 with 50pound mono ive fished braid for mulloway got sick of loosin big fish. i really think u need the stretch of the mono to counter those big head shakes aspecialy off the beach me and me mates spend a lot of time up kalbarri way and ive noticed a big differents in mulloway landed on mono to braid mono a big winner and thats why i run the alvey fixed handle with teflon washers 600m of 50 pound there easy to fix big line capacity and some serious come hear power also love the ozflex's great rod great price
8ft Eupro with an Abu Garcia Omega 4000, running 20lb mono...its only three weeks old but already proven itself to be a good combo, the reel has been dunked, dropped in the sand and hasn't missed a beat, been flogged by rays and mullas...easily the best I've had
Currently loving my spheros14000fa and (borrowed) purglas 402. It's stiff as hell but it can punch out a big bait!
My old favourite is my Applause 8000 and 12' Anglers Advantage. It's landed me countless tailor and rays and my 2 most memerable fish, my pb mulla and pinky. Not bad for $80! This combo has been to hell and back
i have no trouble casting 8 ounces and a whole slab of tailor or skippy fsu 6120 is only 10 ft but is very strong and have cast 10 ounces and a slab with it in some very bad weather pm me if u wanna try 1 out. i've currently got 3 alvey set ups 2 with 50lpound and 1 with 25
