Definitely a redfin. Never expected to see one in Bassendean as they are a freshwater species, though have heard of them heading into brackish water occasionally. They're common in dams and rivers south of Perth and are pretty good eating.
that they are in there. I suspect someone dumped a dead one in the river. They are very tough, but dont survive in the nutrient rich Avon river either, so its unlikely it was "washed" down. Avon would have no flow now with no rain for ages.
Have to agree, it was probaly dumped there ( altho anything is possible, there are a few species of introduced fish in those small streams and drains leading into the river )

Do not return them to the water. Do not relocate them to any other water.
Kill em and eat em. They have tough scales and are almost impossible to scale, so best to fillet and skin them
They breed like flies and will overpopulate their environment. When this happens, there will be no big fish, just thousands of 4-5 inch pests!
