A few Rotto trench questions for you

Gday all - with the game season getting closer brother and I starting to gear up for rotto trench trolling. Will be our first serious season out there so first question - Is that area in the middle of the trench that has been marked off limits to fishing being enforced yet - if not now does anybody know when?

Second question - Do you guys that regularly fish the trench for marlin and tuna favour big pushers over skipbaits - or do you run both what do you guys find gives best strike rate?

Thirdly - we are going to launch at Hillary's - go straight to HYC FAD catch our 3 dollies then troll south down the trench till west of west end then come back north. Last year when reading the reports I noticed that most action seemed to be at the south end of the trench do you guys think its a better idea to tow the boat down and launch off say woodies and concentrate on the southern half of the trench.

Any other tips, advice etc very welcome

Cheers Dave

Best advice I could give you Dave is to consider joining a club.
PGFC is only about $110 bucks a year and the amount of info etc that you will get will save you that easy in fuel as the members are more than happy to share info on where the fish are tactics etc. Got many members that don't comp fish either just there to be able to share with like minded people

Apart from that both lures and baits work. Depends on the day. Lures don't always have to be big either. Variety is usually the key.

still kidless so got more time on his hands than me and said he was going to join the PGFC soon. I would love to join them but just know that i will hardly go there, cant even get much spare time to be more involved in my dive club and starting to miss diving off rotto.

tuna in the trench, is there

Sat, 2013-11-09 14:23

tuna in the trench, is there prescence signalled by the prescence of birds OR can they be there with no birds working the surface?

Reason I ask is I want to shoot one this season.

Dolphins can be a good indicator of YFT's.

at about 15 knots on the way out or shifting position, yellow fin and other tuna hang around west end as well,so maybe try from woodies some time, or come home via west end
