Fin-Nor Offshore Reels

I was at a local store today and they had some run out specials with Penn 24KG boat rods coupled with large Fin-Nor offshore egg beater reels. 9500's I think from memory. Good looking and sturdy reel.It looked like a good deal all round.
I picked one combo up and the thing that hit me was how heavy the setup was and cant imagine spending a full day hanging onto one, so there must be a couple of saving graces to make up for such a heavy unit.
Does anyone have an outfit like this and can you please give me an idea wether its worth the effort or am I better off looking elsewhere.
Advertised at $350
cheers

your on the money with the weight issue mate. however, it is a combo that you will truly have for the rest of your life. I think from memory the fin nor 9500 has 60lb of drag witch is absolutely ridiculous. if you locked the drag up on that thing the fish would probably pull you in the water. I think for that price you could pick up something like a spheros or an emblem pro and a decent lighter rod that you could hold for a longer period of time. also better for casting if going off the beach. I think the fin nor and a 24kg rod is more suited to sharks or sambos or kingies.

My finnor is my rock fishing set up which it is great for. From the beach it is ok, but I prefer my other setups for repeated casting and beach fishing.

 Love mine!

it weights a ton, but I mainly use my 9500's for trolling or when the cod n sharks come in, which it is awesome for.

i think I have 6 ish finnor reels and about 8 of their jig rods.

funny that their reels weigh more than a Russian tank, but their rods are lighter than helium almost!!

Solid reels, a bit on the heavy side for lure fishing, but they will last you a life time.
