Fish Identification

Hey everyone,

I've been fishing around the perth area for a few years now and I've been catching some nice fish and also some wierd looking ones, i've sat for hours in book stores getting a sore ass from the hard floors looking for the fish i've been catching, some of them are in some book but not all, is there a book that anyone knows of thats good for id of fish on the west coast?????

Cheers

Sea Fishes of Southern Australia

Get Sea Fishes of Southern Australia by Barry Hutchins and Roger Swainston if you are fishing down south and  Marine Fishes of Tropical Australia and South East Asia by Gerry Allen if fishing up north and you cannot go wrong.

Take a Pic and post it always good to see what people think. One our fellow members has a lot of expertise in this field I think his name is Glen from the museum. Put some detail in as in where what how and when with a good pic, always like having a look at the wierd and wonderful creatures for our waters.

I agree with the above posts.  Fishwreckapedia has photos of most of the stuff you are more likely to catch.  The book by Hutchins and Swainston is the only one you really should have for the south-west.  Otherwise take a photo and stick it up on here - everyone jumps in pretty quick to offer a name.  If it is tricky, then I can help!
