Fisheries Busting Mandurah Crabbers
Submitted by Formerathlete on Sun, 2013-11-17 19:32
It was great to see the Fisheries boys busting the crabbers who had a bucket full of 3 inch crabs at Coodanup this evening. Great to see them respond when called!

The 3 muskateers go crabbing?
All for one and one for all , hurray, no its not some slightly girly french dudes in tights , its the fisheries rules.
Every 3 inch crab killed or taken is one less to breed and grow to a big blue, for me and the kiddies to catch.
They really do need more education , if this is still occuring, followed by a swift kick up the arse for those giving
everyone else the middle finger, and only worrying about themselves.

Drink to that
On the flats today for whiting and every crab I saw was undersize. So many people out there trying for a crab I knew that they would be taking small ones and just quietly hoped the fisheries might be around. Hope they keep it up. There should be more fisheries officers around the estuary at this time of year.

fisheries
I was down at the café opposite penguin island last weekend
,they were checking a man and woman that had a bucket full of what looked like some sort of sea snails , they looked like those big brown land snails but a lot bigger. good to see the fisheries out and about but rather than them crashing their boat into my boat out at FFB when they wanted to check me out (still raises my blood pressure when I think about that)

Agree pete
In general Im happy with fisheries and what they do, however for some reason ( lack of training , care?) alot have had unplesant run ins with those offshore demo derby pilots!
My suggestion , and something I will be doing in the future , is as soon you know its fisheries , get a crew member to start filming the whole stop, start to finish
as most usually have a camera or 2 on board. That way if you are not happy with the way you are being treated at least you have some prooof , not just he said, she said thing.
as a upside , maybe if they see you filming , the way they approach your boat and deal with the public may improve?

Boarding technique
I was boarded out from Mandurah last week in a 14" boat, while I welcome them to check me out as i have nothing to hide and support their efforts, I was genuinely conserned about being more or less crashed into by a boat three times bigger than mine not just because of damage to my boat but the bow of there boat being much higher than my boat nearly hit me aswell ! Think they nead some training on how to go about interacting with small boats!

well done fisheries
Great job guys an girls very happy to see the selfish bastards who take under size crabs and don't give a dam about the future of the fishery getting their just deserves.
In my opinion the season at Mandurah should not be opened until 1st of January, I have not seen a size bluey yet and I regularly go wading in the estuary for yfw

I can tell you that Fisheries
I can tell you that Fisheries were at Palm Beach jetty last week, and they were doing a very good job.
Busted four guys for crabbing, and the good news is that Fisheries have finally put a sign on the entrance of the Jetty with the banned dates and legal size of crabs.
The sign has several different language's on it,so no excuse now for crabbing out of season on the Jetty.

I know it's the law
and I know it's out of season but the "pom" was no different to the rest of them, theres enough said about other races doing the wrong thing
this is just the same

Honestly...
...apart from being illegal, why would anyone even bother with small crabs? Even the just size ones are a bit too fiddly for me. I don't get real excited about the crabbing until they start getting them above 135/140mm....
