Fishing the up coming school holidays

Hi All
I'm looking to get away for a few days during the october school holidays. I want to take my new toy out for a fish as well. I would like to mix deep sea with inshore fishing if possible as I like to get my young (5 year old) daughter invovled. Does anyone have any great places to go that they would recommend. I live in Mandurah and don't want to have to travel a real long distance ( bout 6-8 hrs max travel time ). Any thoughts would be great. Was Also wondering what everyone else is doing and if they are goin away
Thanks
Brodie

Brodie...I posted up a couple of days ago regarding a trip to Jurien over the holidays. Less than a four hour run up there towing a boat. Don't know if you've fished there before but there are outstanding chances for all types of fishing...inshore stuff for the kiddies, bottom bouncing out wide, trolling the back edge of the reef, shallow water snapper lumps, and good fishing off the beaches/jetty.

PM me if you're interested in going up there...I'll be taking my boat and will be up there for between 7 and 10 days.

Oh, and have you been out to the Five Fathom Bank lately? The skippy are around in force, hammering anything, and there have been a few snapper and a consistent flow of large (50cm plus) kgs.

Believe it or not....

I think it's "Jurien Caravan Park"! I'd recommend getting in touch with them ASAP 'cause I think they book out pretty quickly for the holidays. There are other forms of accomodation as well...I know there are some chalets right near the marina, which is handy for launching the boat! Just type "Jurien" into your search engine.

The ramp is very good..two lanes/two jetties, very well maintained, well-lit, and a newly installed fish cleaning bench. As far as I know, it is still free of charge to launch there (was up there last Christmas).

Remember, the V5 ban goes into effect 15 October!

Jurien

I was up there at the start of this year and stayed at the Hill St Chalets. Real budget accom but comfortable and heaps of parking for boat and car. The units might be sold for redevelopment but we`ve stayed there twice ($490/wk).

Jurien is a great spot for the boat as your options are endless even with the V5 ban. Also a very kid friendly spot for the family.

Regards

Chris

Also some nice eating spots as well, we have to come from Leeman if we want a decent meal.  Bit of shopping for the wife, while you go fishing he  he, IGA, bottle shop, fish and chip, not a bad town indeed.

Excellent

Mon, 2008-09-08 08:02

Like all places you go, weather permitting its very good, friends go crabbing, squidding, beach fishing (when there's no weed) 4x4 is the go, ramps can be a pig, high/low tides, fishing is excellent, 20-40 metres gives very good results, certain times of the year can get dhui's in 12 metres of water, very good for crayfishing,  out wide even better, some fishers launch from Gum Tree north about 20klms and go to the island (forgotton the name), pretty scary there apparently when weather a bit dicey. Not a lot of people go wide so as far as picking up fish very good.  Caravan Park is very basic, if wife likes to shop, no have to drive to Jurien, not much to do with kids either when weather sucks. All in all weather fine, fishing excellent.

Bob's (hubbie) been going up for over 20 years and the worst time is Xmas bloody southerlies blow, he found  easter time or end of March roughly through till end of May, or  now till roughly before Xmas, the Easterlies can blow all day,  Even with the southerlies, people do go out in their dinghies inside the reef and anchor up or on crayfishermans mooring, they get their herring, whiting and sometimes a bloody dhuie.  If you've got kids, the main town jetty is good for the kids as they can get herring, squid from the jetty at night. especially hot night nothing nicer than sitting down there. But watch out for the sting rays.  Its a very quiet place not much to do but fish, crayfish or can't go fishing plenty of beachs to 4x4 or sheltered spot to fish from wind, we love it as not a lot of fishing people come up, few do, but like all fishing places you get the killers hit a spot and go back day after day and kill the spot for a long long time.  Cool
