Fishing Denham

Hi guys,

I'm heading up North in a few days with the family and just trying to make a bit of a game plan for fishing out of Denham.

We're towing a 4.3 meter tinny up with a 40 on the back, weather permitting I was going to troll north along the coast and see what I can find, flick some squid jigs around etc. I have had a read of a few posts and taken some notes but just a few questions for people who have fished it before so I don't waste to much time on things that are unlikely to work...

Do many macks get caught around Denham or is it mainly over near the channel?

Can you beach launch a boat anywhere near cape Peron? The google photos look good....

Is there much good country around Denham itself or does everyone travel across to Places like "6 pins" and "the bent peg"? If it's flat I'll shoot over but if not probably stick a little closer to town!

Thanks in advance for any info or tips, hopefully i'll post a little something about the progress in a week or so!

Depends if you have a decent 4wd

and the state of the track to Peron. You should be able to do it and if so then fish the rise to the high tide for pelagics. Troll in the channels that drop down to 6-8 meters. Likewise you can sound for a few coral patches and throw unweighted bits of bait or soft plastics for blacks, snapper, cod etc.

My favourite is to find some likely ground and berley up.

If you want to stay around Denhem then do the above around the 8 mile or bent pin. Make sure you have very good weather in your size boat. If it is blowing sw then look at Monkey mia side.

Plenty of advice from the search engine here

 similar to what boppo said.

similar to what boppo said.  Can beach launch at Bottle Bay.  Have seen 4.3 dinghys launch there.  Track is normally ok except the last 5-10ks.  Not big hills but just soft sand holes.  If you have any concerns about taking the boat on the track (difficult to turn around)  then just take a drive out there in 4WD.  It is only about 45ks and a nice day trip to the tip if boating weather is crap.

 If weather permits even have

If weather permits even have a look around the flats, some good snapper and mullaway caught around that area but the tiger sharks are a pain when they find you.

And

Squid is no problem around the weed beds just infront of town.
Just head out of the channel from the ramp and drift the beds flicking jigs. Usually pick up a feed or 3.

August.

Troy, we are heading up there in August so I will be interested to see how you go. We also will be taking up a 4.2 tinnie & staying in Denham so that is where I will launch from unless the S/W winds are in.
Download Navionics Webapp to your computer, it will give you a good idea of the ground around there.
Look forward to some pics.
Good luck & enjoy.

We are heading up also for a couple of weeks at the end of the month, be curious to know what the fuel and bait prices are like up there ATM if anyone has an idea that would be good.not that we can get away from the fuel but we can take bait with us.

@ coombsy we didn't buy any

Thu, 2016-05-19 19:04

@ coombsy we didn't buy any fuel or bait in denham but fuel in m9nkey mia was 1.21 a litre for deisel which I was surprised with.. 1.31 for unleaded. Bait at the shop was $15 for 2kg of pilchards and $12.50 for a kg of squid... they sell all sorts I took a photo but its a bit painful to post via mobile. I didn't buy bait mate if you go to the jetty at night with a good white jig you'll catch enough squid in 2 hours to keep you going for a week. And if you have a throw net the gar fish are in swarms.

Cheers for that, we head up on Thursday for a couple of weeks. Prices seem reasonable.More importantly how did you go, you get a good feed?

Yea I was suprised. Much more

Yea I was suprised. Much more reasonable than exmouth! To be honest I only got out once due to wind and dropped a couple of what felt like decent pinks/spangoes.. got a decent feed of squid about 25.... good size off the jetty at night. White jig.
