Fishing full moon

Hi all,

I was wondering what are your thoughts on full moon fishing?

1. Is it good or bad?

2. Fishing is good during day time or night time?

3. Does location matter, i.e river or sea?

Cheers :)

yeah despite having the full moon at night is good, Its hasnt been  good for me. Although I have had sucess when the moon rises a little later in the evening rather on Sunset . The fish will bite between Sunset and Moon rise.

Ive caught  snapper, dhuies, prawns n crabs + some, all on full moon at nite, depends on a lot of different factors i think,eg wind, tide, moon position.

Love the full moon

Always do well offshore the three days (one day either side of the full) - and that is consistently over several years but perhaps I fish harder because I have come to expect good returns on the full

Nah, on second thoughts all of my PB's offshore have come on fulls so that cannot be a coincidence

Landbased

The week Lead up to full moon has always been better for me.

Especially  in the gap between sunset and moonrise, or as the moon sets. Most of the bigger mulloway to hit the beach have been 20 minutes before the moon sets. If this coincides with high tides even better.

the actual night of the full moon for me has never been productive except for stingrays!

Thanks for sharing your experience.

How about fishing in the river, would full moon affect it same way as sea?

I always seem to get better

I always seem to get better results (as per nightfish) the week leading up to the full moon. Few reasons I believe this is so is that I target tide changes (both high and low - boat based) and the tide changes in the lead up are longer whereas the tide changes on the full are over a shorter time period. the week prior gives more "ideal time" time to target the fish.

Ie. the hour either side of the tide change in the week prior might be over 2.5-3 hours (with an hour of slackwater before the tide starts running the other way) and only 2 hours on the full with little time of slack between the changeover.

Next major trip is the week prior to the full in April so interesting to see how we go
