Fishing Hopetoun
G'day Guys,
Going down to Hopey in a couple of weeks for four days to visit the missus parents. Little does the missus know if the weather is good the cat will be in tow!! haven't done much in hopetoun but been out on a mates boat once and done pretty well though.
Just wondering if someone could point me in the right direction in regards to productive depths and area's to fish. I am mainly chasing bottom stuff, nannies pinkies and the like but wouldn't mind heading a bit wider and seeing what the deeper stuff holds too, not too sure if you get grey band and the like down there?? Haven't pulled the charts out but seems like it drops off pretty quick out deep.
Anyways any pointers would be great or if anyone is keen to hook up for a fish down there let me know.
Cheers
Hally

Nice place to fish
Most guys down here reckon 35m+ for decent bottom dropping. guys at work here usually get onto quite a few big Nannys and Queenys, Pinkys are a little less common this time of year. but they're still out there. Just watch out for the bloody Leather Jackets.
Myself Im a land locked beach fisherman, but still love getting out at least 3 nights a week. one of the joys of living in Hopey i suppose. Going to try chase a mulloway up over the next 2 weeks, Will say one thing, pack your winter gear, shes a little cold down here at the moment

Yeah I have done plenty land
Yeah I have done plenty land based around Esperance as my sister used to live down there, pretty sure the thermals will be the first thing packed.
I have a patrol so if the weather is looking average I won't be dragging the boat down and will be hitting the beaches.
Tight lines to all :)

mate interesting topic, a
mate interesting topic, a mate of mine Scano and i are talking about doing a trip down south as we have never fished the southern coast in the boat. So keen to take a look at some stage, probably for 5 or so days. Hoeptoun was one place we mentioned.
Wouldnt mind having a crack at the nanny's, pinky's if about.
May also have a crack again at hamelin bay but very weather dependant. Have dome some searching of the outer waters of hamelin bay, i rekon there is heaps of water out there thats never been touched@

pleant of beaches to smash,
pleant of beaches to smash, For an easy one close to town, get on to 3 mile, always good sessions down there, even better now the weed has cleared up. 12-13 mile often throws up a few suprises. 18 mile and down to the bottom of masons bay road is a great spot, especially near the rocks, drops off deep really quick near there, seen a few big fins hanging round off the rocks there.
we often head a little out of town near munglinup, usually some gummy on the bite along that way.
heading the otehr way is a pain in the ass now, furthest you can get is culham inlet and can no longer get on the beach, but plenty of bream and skippy trapped in the inlet.
if you were brave the other spot to get on the beach is at the far end of Maitland Street, takes you to a lime stone track, leads up and onto the beach, but can be bloody soft down there. I live on Maitland and we've had a few people buy us beers after getting them off the beach there.
Ive got a hilux down here so we are always on the beach, night time on the jetty rounding up gardys and herring and then onto the beach.
if this works, this was sunday afternoon

Good info Gregg
do you guys get into some bigger species? As good as that beach look to me it doesn't look a likely spot for Mulloway, could be very wrong

You get mulloway further
You get mulloway further around, both out near Culham and out passed 12mile, Also get some nice salmon and tailor off the roacks, Sunday afternoon was a spur of the moment thing, neighbour and I just left the kids with the wives and went down, through a line in and sunk a few coldies watchign the sun set. few whiting and skippys. This weeks mission is to collect some more fresh bait and try hit the mulloway up down near culham.

Bodie fished down there from
Bodie fished down there from a boat about a year back and the nanies were like flies, only fished about 8 k's out though. I usually head 30-70k's out off Perth, I reckon if you travelled that distance out there you might find some pretty interesting ground. I reckon a lot of people head North with not so many people looking down that way. Weather can get pretty narley up there though and im not that familiar with the area so might just be doing some recon. Also had a nice great white come out while we were out there, looked big enough to eat the 6.5m trailcraft we were in for breakfast!!
Gregg cheers for all the info mate, I love fishing the beaches down there so it won't be an issue if thats what we end up doing.
I tell you what though if I could just get a couple of days like that out there from the weather gods I wont be sitting on the beach catching whiting hopefuly!!
If the brother inlaw can't hold his guts down might need a deckie or two for a couple of days as well.
Tight lines to all :)
