boating wackjobs.

im sure everyone has seen a movie or two where people spend a long time at sea and take a jar of dirt to remind them of home or whatever, has anyone seen this or do they do it? is it a comfort thing or is it just movie b/s?

Sounds like BS to me.

When I was living in Onslow, I did however collect some great shells, buoys and markers that had washed up on the various islands around the place. Good memorabilia for me.

First timers

Mon, 2011-06-13 19:38

Usually it happens with first timers going out of sight of land, the always keep looking back to where they last saw it and get all nervous, so you bring out your handfull of sand for them to run through their fingers while dreaming of sitting on a beach. Like a kid with a security blanket, they get over it once land comes back into view. The islands up here are good because you just lose sight of the dish then the islands start to appear, same on the return trip.

This would be a great idea for folks going out in kayaks for the first time in gale force offshore winds with no safety gear,it could comfort them out of sight of land while awaiting rescue
