how deep and what were you fishing for, sounds strange to me unless you were on a school of snapper or something

 depends on where you are

Sat, 2014-06-07 21:26

depends on where you are fishing. placed like kalbarri, shark bay and exmouth they do it from time to time. all comes down to tides and that sort of thing

Hard Night

Sat, 2014-06-07 22:25

Haha, sounds like the skippers had a hard night  and found it easier to park up and rest a while.

Unless they genuinely do anchor up, 30mtrs is nothing for a boat there size to drop anchor.  Yewt I haved been on 6 charters and havent anchored

Went out on a charter out of Coral Bay a few years ago. We anchored in spots as deep as 140m and slayed it.

Cheers

 Haven't been on a charter

Sun, 2014-06-08 07:21

Haven't been on a charter for probably 10 years but when going out with spinners in albany they anchored up all the time in at least 50m and we never came back without a good bag.

Anchoring

Sun, 2014-06-08 08:30

Better to anchor on a spot than drift over it.
As you drift over it and hook a fish others follow it and get drawn away from the reef, reducing the size of the school. By anchoring the school stays put allowing you to catch more of them

Some species, IMO, dont like

Some species, IMO, dont like the bait to be moving too much.

I always find red emperor are better to anchor over instead of drift.

Feeding Station

Sun, 2014-06-08 09:41

You will probably find that it is a feeding station that the Charter boat has created or FAD.
Marked on the GPS with a Mooring just under the water surface and goes to it all the time ,would be burly it up all the time and becomes a home to fish and feeding area to bigger fish.
Depends on how often he would go there to how many fish live there.

anchor

Sun, 2014-06-08 15:28

aiden will always anchor up on spots. The ground here is different and because its so barren you cant just drift over the lumps as youll be pulling up n resetting your drift every 5 minutes. Also drifting poses a problem with lines getting tangled up with the current shifting around especially when you get wind one way n current the other! Nightmare!

As I said before. A guy from out of town v a guy from town! You go with the localknowledge nit the tourist!

Pm me mate n ill give ya me nr n go for a cliff bash
