Fishing for Metro Mac's
Submitted by DSL on Mon, 2011-01-10 14:29
Hi There
I am new to all of this :( - and have read that Spanish Mackerel can be caught here in Perth - from what I understand now is the season and that I should be going for a trawl behind the 3Mile - can anyone confirm or deny this for me ?
Thanks Dean

thats correct mate, this is the right time of the year and the water is heating up nicely. Iv had better success around rotto myself
halco lazer pro 190 deep divers and shallow runners are the go. King brown, green gold tiger, chrome pink and our custom colours have be stand outs for me

Yep now is the time
Depending on water temp you can catch mackies all the way through to the start of winter.
I managed my one and only spaniard at the back of staggies in the month of May. (Cold above the water but warm in it)

what sort of deps do we troll?
and is 8knots a good speed?
getting the bottom line final answer from a bunch of blokes that use false names and put smiley faces at the end of paragraphs is not the best place in the world to get the information you seek.

I like the 15-20m contours
I like the 15-20m contours for the metro Macks. Especially around Rotto
6-8knots is what i have found most productive.

Caught one on Sunday
Picked up my first for the season on Sunday. The mackie went 15kg and took a live bait that I sent out under a balloon while I was anchored up fishing for whiting.

Wow that sounds good
Can I ask was this at Rotto or 3mile ?
Now if the wind would die down a bit for the weekend that would be great
