Fishing the Narrows

So ive decided to try my luck at the narrows.. ive never fished
there so should be fun. What bait do people use, im thinking
river prawns and maybe give a bag of mulies a try? I will take
a few lures and heard the twisties are a hit. I will soak a big bait
see if i can get a hit or two. Id also be chasing tailor, bream or
flathead..

Im guessing you fish from the south side im just not sure if
you setup from under the bridge to the left or right? i notice on
google maps there is a little beach type area..

Thanks again guys

Narrows.

Busy with rods at the moment, specially at the weekend but night time is definitely best. Fish either side of bridge or that beach, its all valid. My best fish came from the North  (a few big tailor), and also from the beach, never from the South actually, but that doesn't mean anything. I often go to the North side just because its quieter. Quieter not for me , it means the fish have been less hammered I think which gives me confidence.

Because the fish do get hammered I reckon it makes it hard, and sometimes it appears fishless and you can begin to despair, but they are def there and in numbers trust me. I  even used to think it was a crap spot and people were talking crap, but I know different these days.

key elements could be patience and faith cause these are most tested.

Everyone's chucking metal/ plastic and live baits anything else is gobbled by the river plague.

List of species from narrows - Tailor, Flathead, Bream, Yellow Eyed Mullet, and two 'I don't knows' but everything has been of a better size and I dropped something big there once too, all adds to the excitement. No Mulla yet but it will come.

Good luck.

Thanks chrisd! decent reply and sounds like you have done alrite there... im off work for a while so ill head down during the week hopefully keep outta the crowds ... when you say you fish the north side im guessing off mounts bay rd/riverside drive? i had a look on google maps but i cant see where to park? Mill point road looks like the place to park and setup??

Alrite so give the mulies a miss and just use live bait and lures.. ive tried everthing and havent managed anything on lure except trolling from a boat.. which i dont own..

are the tailor there usually around sunset just before and just after?

thanks for all your help..

There is a carpark on the left side of Mts Bay road as you come up to the river, if you want to fish off the north side

North side

Well I've had good luck at this spot, but it took time and honest I was determined it was crap for ages. Then things just started to go right.

Anyway I cross the bridge on foot, it takes five minutes and fish under the bridge. Fish towards the pontoons, though I've had fish 3 - 4 meters downriver of these structures too. I don't park down MTs Bay rd as its too far (pay in day now) and your car is isolated at night, never a good idea. stick it on the south side as always plenty of people around that area. The further I have moved downriver of the bridge (in this area) the poorer the fishing has been for me. I did have tailor chasing lures at the brewery but nothing spectacular.

People will have their own opinion on these things, but I reckon the decent Tailor move up and down river with the tide (I've even watched them)  and when they're on they will famously take just about anything you can throw at them. This means that it is always gonna be difficult to locate the shoal, success is getting the timing right.
