Fishing Rod Count for Exmouth

Tell you what, how hard is it to try and reduce the amount of rods to take to Exmouth.

Atm i think im prob around the 30 mark, covering all bases from game to popper to jig to fly to little flickies and squid rods.

Almost need to tow a trailer behind the boat just for the rods.

So how much gear is everyone else taking.

please there has to be someone else as bad as me lol !!!!

Same here

Was up there a month ago for 2 weeks and it was hard to reduce the amount of rods. Ended up taking about a dozen all with matching reels. Like you said , covering all bases is important. If the weather turnes bad you need some gear for shore fishing as well. My moto is if it fits in the boat it makes the trip. No use having the gear and then leaving it at home.

Sat, 2010-05-01 19:53

I'm not going but I'd take maybe 6 rods and reels if I was.

4-6kg spinning rod with Okuma V System V-30 spinning reel
8-10kg spinning rod with Okuma V System V-55 spinning reel
8-12kg Sabre spinning rod with 850ss Penn Spinfisher spinning reel
6-10kg overhead rod with calcutta 400 reel
15kg overhead rod with Shimano TLD 30A Two Speed reel
24kg Bluewater Ugly Stick spin rod with 16000 Okuma Salina II reel.
Should be enough to fish with up there.

Cheers
Dale

50lb braid bottom bouncer

80lb popper combo

30lb braid flick stick for the shore

6kg baitcaster combo

thats probably it for me

ive learnt over the years

Sat, 2010-05-01 23:19

ive learnt over the years that you dont need to many i first went up with 20 then 15 now i get away with round 10
that includes
1xfly
1xpop
1xjig
1xegi
1xlight jig
1x heavy placcy
1x fliky for light placcys and small poppers
1x trolling outfit
1x bottom bashing
1x boat pop heavy
what more do you need anything more than 15 or there abouts is just for wank factor lol

its like people that have more than half a dozen squid jigs - any more than that is just wank factor.

I'll take one fewer than originally intended, I haven't replaced my 10lb SP rod and really who needs to go that light in exmouth for anything but squid *giggle*.

15kg mono troller rod and reel
PE6 & 4 jiggers
PE3 caster

Perhaps a spare or too, but thats it really.

whoa

Mon, 2010-05-03 11:39

thats a lot of rods hey.

we put a 3 rod limit on whoever comes up with us, as otherwise you end up with far too many rods on the boat, a lot of which wont even get used anyway (although this year i'm going to sneak my 3 peice 4kg baitcaster, in case we hit our snapper spot).

comes with me ; torsa 30 (50lb braid) on alutecnos blue jiggin rod (bottom bashing)

stella 20k (80lb braid) on alutecnos blue jigging rod (deep drift baiting)

penn formula 15 (30lb mono) on shimano backbone (15kg trolling)

(plus diawa capricorn 4kg on 3 peice ugly stick gold for snapper..!)

Cataby is usually the wake up point on a northern trip. When you suddenly remember something important that isn't with you and its too far to go and collect it!!

I would take most of my gear

Mon, 2010-05-03 20:30

and that would be around the 20 to 25 odd.Just because you have it up there doesnt mean you have it all on the boat at once.
