FISHING WA Deep water episode

Hi all,

I have been targeting Harpuka, Bass Groper, Blue eye Trevalla and Grey banded Cod and find it very challenging. I am very interested in finding all the ins and outs of catching these big buggers. I have done a couple of trips now with little success a part from the usual Green Eye pests and large Leather Jackets.

Just a heads up that the Fishing WA Deep water episode is on tomorrow at 2:30pm.

Similar to Frank I have been trying for over 2 years with no result to date.  I'm sure the show tomorrow will repeat your words, location, location.

anytime..

But seriously. There are literally hundreds of nautical miles out there and without a suitable echo sounder unit you will be struggling to sound at speed. Also its a time crisis with long travel times and your day can vanish pretty quick.  On a previous trip we were within meters of a crevis and pulling nothing until we found it and boated some great fish.

Bets on theres one thing they wont mention and thats "location"

They just won't give any and I wouldn't expect them to either.

Yep - Meters count

Sat, 2011-01-15 19:32

Yep, one of my favourite sayings for Exmouth.  If your not on it, your just not on it.  Such a small distance can mean the difference between getting fish and missing them, seen it so many times it became a saying!

I watched a repeat this

Sun, 2011-01-16 11:20

I watched a repeat this morning on Fox, with them fishing off Esperance.

Jacko showed the world how much of a Tosser he can be, the only way of expressing his excitement/enthusiasm, is by screeching out guttural sounds and acting like a Homo.

I met him and Nicko at the servo in Carnarvon a few years ago, and he came across as a really like-able, blokey type bloke. Top fella in fact.

Just a shame he hams it up on the camera all the time. When he presents the intro's in a measured tone, it's like a different person.

4.30pm in my TV guide

Sun, 2011-01-16 13:15

In the Seven Days TV guide in yesterday's Weekend West newspaper, channel 7 is showing a movie 'Cocoon, The Return' at 2pm and Fishing WA at 4.30pm. I've noticed over the past few weeks that it's been starting 5 minutes earlier than advertised.

I think it's at 2:30 today

Sun, 2011-01-16 15:00

I think it's at 2:30 today (about finished now) instead of 4:30 due to a flood relief program being on from 4, so was probably a late change hence last weeks newspaper showing original time.

Missed it??

Sun, 2011-01-16 22:27

Don't know if I missed it or IT didn't show up but who cares? All they do is hold a fish up for twenty minutes or so congratulating themselves for using blah blah blah while the poor fish is dying and then suddenly realise it and just spear it in so its out of sight  of the camera and hopefully doesn't surface belly up and spoil the shot.

It doesn't matter which fishing show it is, they are all the same, present the sponsors gear, blah blah blah and make money for the tv channel .Anyone who has spent time learning to catch fish knows that the longer a fish is out of the water the less chance of it surviving decreases rapidly and these morons conveniently forget that for the sake of a minute of television footage. If it was on showing them trying to catch deep water species at least they can hold them before the camera and have a chat about the weather, rods, reels, bait and what they are doing next week for as long as they like because they will be dead by the time the come to the surface.

Geez you are a cranky old

Sun, 2011-01-16 22:38

Geez you are a cranky old bugger, and that is coming from a 50 yr old .

The show was great ( apart from the poxy ads on free to air TV )

They went out wide and deep, pulled up 2 Bass/groper and a Hapuka, all for the esky.

Interestng to note, the grounds they were fishing were most probably untouched by pro net fisherman.

More than 250 mtrs off shore

Too deep for those pansies !!!!!!!!!!

Releasing fish

Sun, 2011-01-16 22:55

If I catch a fish that I don't want to take home, I don't stant there for ten minutes jerking off taking pics of it before it goes back in the water. Most of the pics I take are fo fish that are going in the icebox because any others are not on board long enough to take a pic.

your contradicting there ! u

Sun, 2011-01-16 23:04

your contradicting there ! u said the show is only on for 11 mins, the rest is adverts & sponser's. so if they talk for 10 mins, on 1 fish that means they only caught 1 fish ? i am sure they caught a few 2 day ??????????????

Sun, 2011-01-16 22:48

yeah , it was a good show but Lisa had her work cut out for her with the bass . from memory Ryan mentioned they were in 400mtrs. at least they now admit they are keeping fish for the table. today Lisa said they caught 6 all up with 3 on board.
